Default Squealing belt in the rain

We've had a lot of rain recently and I noticed that the belt squeals loudly at start up, after sitting in the rain. It even slipped a little as I could feel the power steering fade in and out for a second.

Normal? Or does the belt need adjusting?

Mine too. Haven't even bothered to bring it in since it only happens in heavier rain & dealer certainly would give me the old "could not replicate..."

It's something with the decklid, I rode in a friends 08 car with an aerokit in the pouring rain, not a peep.
Somehow, it's letting water in and onto the belt during very heavy rains only.

I got it too for the first time last weekend after I washed the car. Never had it in the rain.

I have to say that I've never experienced this in my 07 TT and it is a daily driver.

Just trying to provide some balanced reporting.

I get it only when I wash it and then first start it up. Maybe it depends on how aggressivly you rinse the car with direct aim at the deck lid and the underside. I dont drive it in the rain so cant report on that.

My 996 Carrera and 996 Turbo did the same after I washed them.

After a wash with aggressive rinse sometimes, but even in heavy rain, never. Maybe I am not driving fast enough, or too fast.

A quick spray (just a touch) of WD40 on the belt and it goes away for a while again. :-).

This I believe would not be recommended on any belt drive system, vehicle or otherwise as this would only make it easier for more slippage albiet without the squeal....FWIW I also have had it breifly after a wash (yesterday as a matter of fact) but that's it.

This is recommended by Porsche dealer. This is what they do. And it works. You must use WD40 as it actually dries off after two belt cycles. You spray it on with a nozzle only for a second. Belt stops squealing immediately and there is no slippage as you watch the belt.

Unless of course your belt is lose, in such case it needs replacing.
