Default 997 TT strut brace ??

Hey, folks ...

I just picked up my 997 TT cab today. The car is terrific.

But ...

The new car seems to have some cowl shake compared to my 997 C4S coupe that I traded. But, only when I push it in the turns. Just seems a bit loose to me.

Anyone install a strut tower brace in these cars? And, if so ... where did you find the brace? And, any other info .... did it help the cowl shake? Yada, yada.

Thanx in advance.

I dont think you can and believe me having gone from a 993 FLEXIBLE to a 996 GT3 and then to a 997 GT3 I cant imagine anyone needing a strut brace. From what I remember there is no way to hook one on the way the front trunk is.

Well there is this:
http://www.evoms.com/marketplace/Mar...-041BD8E72D57}

I had the front brace on my TT coupe back when I had a TT coupe.

IMHO, the TT cab is perfect and the coupe is too stiff for a DD.

You already have one, it's buried behind the plastic cowl.

Really ?? The service manager and a guy with a TT said they "added a front strut brace to his cab".

There is a multi-piece strut brace behind the cowel on ALL 996/997 cars. There is no need for a strut brace. The factory cup race cars use the same stock piece of equipment. Anybody trying to sell you a strut brace is just that...

Good to know, Doug ...

But, that said, the TT has more roll in the twisties than the C4S coupe. I tho't that would be cured with a strut brace, but I guess not. It's not serious roll, just not a 'stable' as the C4S couple.

Stick on some GMG roll bars - works with factory drop links too.

Like Alex said, get a stiffer sway bar. I have the Gt2 bar, works good.

During the 350 miles or so I've driven the TT, I notice it is a lot more 'loose' in the rear than my C4S couple. Perhaps a stiffer sway bar would be the ticket.

Thanx for the help.

Hi, welcome to the "club." Check out these 2 (duplicate) threads and see if my observation fits yours. The cure, btw, is inexpensive and IMHO will transform the car.

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but before I put the EVO strut brace on my GT2, I had no strut brace from the factory and I felt a difference in a GT2 when I turned the wheel, I can only imagine what it would do for a cab.

I haven't looked under the carpeted plastic to see if there is a strut back there. But, judging from the way the car handles .... I doubt if one exists.

My MY '07 C4S handled MUCH better than the TT.

Cannga ...

I tried to read the threads, but I became confused quite easily with the tech stuff. I'm pretty much a non-tech fella.

I'll try again manana. Thanx.

LOL. Just read the first couple pages. Basically, yes I agree with you. The Turbo has a very soft suspension system which causes it to have a lot of vertical and lateral motion, especially in the back. You need to firm up the suspension with after-market coilover like Bilstein, etc.

This softness has taken more than one person by surprise. I myself was thinking the Turbo, being the upper end, would be "aggressive and tough," only to find out it is actually a very soft car. I recently drove a C2S extensively and I agree with you. I prefer the C2S suspension to the *stock* Turbo. Without a doubt.

Once you modify the suspension, however, the Turbo would be EXTREMELY hard to surpass: a daily driver that is stupendously fast and agile. You might want to visit 6speedonline where these discussions take place on a daily basis.
