On my tt, redline kicks in rather hard in a serrated manner at approximately 65-67 hundred rpm...I really have not had the cojones to reach top speed, though I have seen some videos of tt's reaching over 185 mph.
Though I must say, the car hunkers down and feels stable and steerable at speeds in excess of 250 km, although "disclaimer"...i have never gone over any legal sanctioned speed limit in my life.....and I have stated this to my spouse and children ad nauseum!

That's a great question. There are actually two different approaches to "redline" on this car from what I understand. The actual "redline" of the car is 6750 rpms. In other words, for optimal power and acceleration times, the driver should not shift past 6750 rpms. However, the "limiter" is set at 6900 rpms to protect the engine from over-revving. From personal experience, I have seen 6700 rpms because I am thinking shift before I even get near redline due to how fast the car pulls gears 1 and 2 during acceleration runs. This engine is not a screamer and makes its power way lower in the rev range than most other supercars, so to exceed 6700 rpms to try and get to 6900 would be pointless and should be avoided if possible to keep your engine safe.
As far as top speed, Porsche claims 193 mph for the TT. I have read in some mags that it is limited by computer, others limited by redline (gearing). I haven't got anywhere near 193 (sanity gets the better of me), but I have little doubt this car could get close to 200 with a good tailwind! And if you do an ECU mod, 200 would probably come and go faster than I care to imagine...

Absolutely. Porsche does not govern these cars. Only the redline limits you. With a turbo engine you can easily touch 190,--I've been 180 in my S so I know the turbos should easily go to 190 + Keep in mind that with a turbo engine there is nothing to be gained by pushing the engine near the redline,--your peak torque is developed lower down. I would be shifting no later than 6500 rpm.

according to my tuner (protomotive) the 997TT has both a rev limiter and a speed limiter around 193 mph real, not speedo. extending the rev limiter only would not affect top speed as the speed limiter has to be deleted as well. there are also a bunch of other limiters for each gear that are removed with the flash.

I think the problem is solved right now, but it was a huge problem to get rid of this limit in Tiptronic cars.
You can see it here, boost gets down when 322 km/ are reached;-(((

Hi there... I have reached 325km with my 997 tt '07 and that was not top speed yet.. I do have a few mods on the car with Softronic ECU prorgramming.. but i was pretty much there on the rev line at 6,900
