Default Can you feel the love? Detailed my 997 Turbo.

Early this morning I started work on my car:
  • Clean the wheels with P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • Clean the wheels with CGCWC diluted in water
  • Rinse wheels thoroughly
  • Wash the car with Meguiars Crystal Car Wash (pink) diluted in water in a 5 gallon bucket with a grit guard. Used a mitt.
  • Dry the car with a leather chamois, California Water Blade, and a microfiber towel.
  • Wash the car with Dawn Dish Detergent diluted in water
  • Dry the car
  • One coat of Z2
  • Hand buff with a cotton towel
  • Another coat of Z2
  • Hand buff with a cotton towel
  • Another coat of Z2
  • Hand buff with a cotton towel
  • Mist with Z6 and hand buff

It was overcast with a marine layer sitting on the beach, so I drove to Palos Verdes to take some pictures. First stop was Malaga Park.

I drove around the peninsula to San Pedro to find the sun.

In the future, you might want to consider using it if you plan to put more than 2 layers on the car in one day. According to Sal at Zaino, the ZFX will help the layers bonds to one another.

Looks great.

Looks ab fab!

Why did you wash it with the pink stuff before you Dawned it? Seems redundant.

I had the same question, or maybe I am just lazy.
Anyway, spectacular results.

Looks great.

You should use the ZFX with Z2 at least for the first coat as it improves bonding to the paint/clearcoat. Or you can use the ZAIO now instead. Also, each layer has to fully cure prior to the next layer, so if you put more than one coat per day or so, you have to use the ZFX flash cure as well. Otherwise it really is just one layer.

Since it is a 2007, you probably have some oxidation/particulate matter on the paint, and a clay bar after the dawn step can improve that.

After it is fully cured, try some Z-CS to add shine and durability.

Well, to answer the question, "why did I wash the car before I washed it with Dawn?" -- At first I started to just wash the car. It was overcast outside, so I thought, what the hell, I'll just Zaino the car!

Sounds like a good enough reason to me.

Indeed!

Hats off to you for putting in that much time on a day when you were planning to only wash the car. I have to prepare myself mentally for days before I do the Zaino treatment on a car because of the time commitment it requires. Nice!
