Question Service indicator question

"Service due in 9 days..." is showing on my OBC display. I have about 5K on the odo.

I have RTFM and my maintenance schedule will basically be based on 'years' rather than 'miles' since I don't pile the mileage on annually. Minor-minor-major, minor-minor-major... is essentially the alternating maintenance schedule.

It's an '07TT and the last in service date was 1/25/08 yet my indicator is calling for service in 9 days.

I assume that the indicator was not 'reset' with the last in service visit and it's calling for an oil change based solely on time.

Am I missing something here?

Does the indicator do more than simply monitor time or mileage passed? Is there some type of oil quality monitoring going on here?

My search didn't really turn up any specifics...

RJ,
It must just need to be reset. Mine is reading service in 23 days, which would be the 1 year anniversary.

I had this happen on the MB. They had forgotten to reset the service indicator.

Got it. Thanks, guys.

It looks like no matter what you do, they want you to get into the dealer once a year.

Basically, 2 out of 3 annual trips to the dealer are for oil service and to 'look things over'.

I may have to start looking for a reset tool.

Can this be reset from home? or does a dealer need to do this via a computer?
