Default Tiptronic S - Differences between 997TT and others.

Hi all,

Did a search on this and couldn't find anything really relevant, so I'm hoping someone in the TT forum can help me out with this.

I'm trying to find out the differences between the Tiptronic S gearboxes in the 997TTs and others such as the more pedestrian 997s, and the 987s in particular.

My understanding is that the 'boxes are all of the same basic design, but that the 997TT has strengthened internals for the demands of its (obviously) harder service life. Can anyone elaborate on what those differences are though?

Keen to know if a) what the differences are, and b) what would be entailed in the process of retrofitting part(s) of, or the entire gearbox into a regular 997 or 987.

Thanks!

I understand the 997TT auto gear box is made by Mercedes, not sure about the rest of the 997 and 987 line up.

ZF (can only find their German language site) makes a variety of products, including transmissions, for a number of mfrs:

ZF ist Partner der Automobilindustrie weltweit
Alfa Romeo Aston Martin Audi Bentley BMW Bugatti Buick Cadillac Chery Chevrolet Chrysler Citroën
Daewoo Dodge Ferrari Fiat Ford General Motors Holden Honda Hummer Hyundai Jaguar Jeep
Kia Lamborghini Lancia Land Rover Lincoln Maserati Maybach Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercury Mini
Mitsubishi Nissan Opel Perodua Peugeot Pontiac Porsche Proton Renault Rolls-Royce Saab Samsung
Seat Sˇk oda Smart Ssangyong Toyota Vauxhall Volvo VW

TQ ratings in NM (eingangs-drehmoment). The last 2 numbers in this cut/paste gone wrong are # of gears and NM Torque rating:

Produkt Antriebsart Gangzahl V Eingangs-drehmoment (NM)
5 HP 19 Standard/Heck 5 300
5 HP 24 Standard/Heck 5 420
6 HP 26 Heck 6 600
6 HP 26 A Heck Allrad 6 600
6 HP 32 Heck 6 750
4 HP 20 Front 4 330
5 HP 19 FL Front 5 310
6 HP 32 A Heck Allrad 6 770

Even if you can't read German, their product brochure is very informative with pics:

They don't get more specific, but I imagine they have a transmission and a torque rating for every model in every line they mfr for.
