While I usually let the car idle a bit before shutdown, it has a water cooling circuit for the turbos that continues to run even after shutoff.

To seat the rings, you need to slow down in gear. There is an ancient thread on this on the 996tt board. Basically, accelerate to 5000+ rpm in 2nd, back off till 3000 rpm, repeat a few times. Then third, then fourth gears. it is the vacuum that seats the rings-that comes from backing off, not longer full throttle. AS

I broke my car in hard and used the vacum method above, it uses very little oil and never smokes.

That's for the advice guys, i'll try that also. All seems fine now that I'm driving it at least four times a week and the tach sees 6,200 now.

got back last night from a 300 mi trip south of albq. averaged 96.2 mph. i had an hr i didn't run below 105 mph, with stretches reaching 152 for brief periods. The car loved it and runs better and more responsive now.

I actually thought of you guys who live in the congested cities and burbs and how your cars would never get a work out like this. There's nothing like cutting through a desert highway with miles to see and nothing around. After I picked my wife up (she's no speed freak) and was an hr into the trip back with us catching up on things, she noticed the speedo was at 105. Calmly she asked if we have been at this speed for awhile....umm ya, without a blink she says it felt like we were doing 65!!!! Great car.

Thats too funny....I did the same thing, first in the 964T and now recently in the twin. I just couldnt understand why life was so unfair that I buy a turbo and traffic levels double Getting used to the closing speed is something else
