V1 here...simply n other choice in my experience. Maybe others are as good but I have yet t get a ticket with my V1 "on".

I use Valentine 1 in all my cars, even in my wifes car.

It seems V1 is the choice detector even though more expensive and only wind shield mount.

I use the belt and suspenders approach. A V-1 combined with an Escort SRX both hard wired.

The V-1 can't help much against laser guns, but it is much more sensitive than the SRX against other threats.

You brought up a good point I forgot to ask. How hard is it to hard wire the V1 to power at the rvm?

I have a passport 8500 and its saved my butt time and time again. Lately I am getting frustrated with all the false alarms here in San Francisco. Is it possible to re-program this detector to eliminate all X, and K signals? If not I will make the switch to the V1. Have never owned a V1 so can't compare. The 8500 is a great detector, especially for Ka signals (the one that counts). The Laser warning will literally give you a heart attack as it scares the daylights out of you. Especially since you know your as good as toast. The 3 laser warnings I have gotten so far didn't result in a ticket. The 997S next to me during my last laser encounter was not because he ended up passing me up during the warning. The HP is trained to go for the lead runner so he blew right by me and pulled over the other Porsche. Usually when the laser signal goes off you might as well start pulling over because your a dead duck. Your only hope is a laser jammer (not legal in California). The strategy basically is to jam the laser gun sending off an "error" message on the readout. He gives it a second shot and by then you have already slowed down to the speed limit and switched off your jammer right?

I have an 8500, saved me many times as well. You can def reprogram them, but I don't have the manual anymore. Can't be too hard.
My only issue is the mounting cups on the 8500- they suck. That alone may push me towards a V1 again.

Check out the new escort 9500, looks sweet, less than the v1 as well.

All the Escort manuals are available online at Escort Inc's website. Here's the link: http://www.escortradar.com/ :D Magwheel

I find the best place to mount it is on the passenger side sun visor (must purchase the clip online). Its not only the highest point in the car but you don't have issues with vibration between the radar and the windshield or the famous permanent Porsche "cup" imprints that are hard to get off the windshield (Porsche is specifically mentioned as having this problem on the passport website, must be the interior window treatment they use). Suction cups also need replacing and sometimes just let go. Give it a try, I would put any brand detector in that spot. I wish I knew how to get rid of some of the false alarms? Thats annoying, especially in the city. The newer model has a GPS that "learns" what alarms are false. At least thats what they claim? I will switch to the V-1 next time around because the arrows are a big plus to me.

TT Surgeon 09-30-2007 01:43 AM

The windshield spot issue was in the old 964 cars, used different widow tx and glass composition back then, a non issue 993 onward.

whyb2nd 09-30-2007 01:51 AM

The cups V1 provides seem to be the best I have used. treated right on application they stick forever.

whyb2nd 10-02-2007 01:16 AM

Everybody done, lets close the thread, V1 wins again. I wish they would do a current shoot out with the comp.
