Default 3.6l 997 turbo?

Why is the 997 turbo engine 3.6l and the c2s engine 3.8l? Will the 997 turbo engine get upgraded to a 3.8l engine and result in more HP?

I am on the order list for a 997tt but do not want to take delivery if a bigger tt engine is going to come out. If so, when?

Eventually they will have to, but the 3.6L from the turbo and the 3.8 from the Carrera S are really different engines...different blocks, etc, so it's not just a matter of slapping the turbos on that engine. I wouldn't expect the TTS to be anything other than a retuned 3.6TT, but it would be nice if they would go up to 3.8 or 4.0L.

If you ask me, it would have been much better if they went to a 3.8 or even 4.0L for the 997TT rather than this overhyped variable vane turbo. Going to a larger displacement engine would go much further to decreasing turbo lag and would give a much higher potential top hp, albeit with a potential hit to MPG.

Consider yourself lucky that PAG continues to use the M64/GT1 derived block (engine) in these cars.

Seems like so far the technical issues with going with 3.8 or 4.0 causes some problems with turbocharging.

I'd guess it would be a heat issue. So at this moment, other technologies such as VTG's are preferable, instead of increasing the displacement.

It seems that if the baseline hp/torque of the engine is higher (from larger displacement), there will be less feeling of lag when the turbos spool up, especially since you need smaller turbos to keep the peak hp the same. If you use the same size turbos you will get increased peak hp and in that case it really wont make much difference in sensation of turbo lag.
