Default VTG Upgrade without Injectors?

Currently have intercoolers and exhaust off on my new-to-me 997.1 - found quite a bit of oil in the intercoolers, and a worrying amount of axial shaft play in the bank 1 turbocharger. Interestingly - had I not pulled the intercoolers off to upgrade, I likely would not have known!

I had planned on a set of hybrid VTGs "at some point" - I may be inclined to move this time-table up. What I don't want to do is pull the injectors until my planned engine out service some time in spring. At that point I'd likely do clutch, clutch assist delete, pinned cams, etc.

Is there a such thing as a "safe tune" on pump gas with a set of upgraded VTGs? Still as yet undecided between 63.5, 65, 68mm options.

A cursory look has not told me what stock injectors flow

The stock injectors should flow enough to maximize upgraded VTG’s on pump gas. On e85 you may run out of injector before maxing the turbos out. For bigger non VTG turbos such as Xonas you need bigger injectors even for pump fuel.

For reference, I was able to run an e30 mix with 68VTG’s on stock injectors with a custom tune and my duty cycle if I recall correctly was in the high 80’s. I was also running AMS intercoolers, and GMG headers and exhaust. The car made around 600 wheel hp.

Hope this helps.

If you can Seb have a chat with Mike Levitas at TPC. My own personal view he did the best large VTG set up in the US. Not sure if he's still offering his 775 Blitzkrieg package but its the one that I would want. Been developed like Porsche would develop a solution themselves.

What was the limiting power factor on your car with e85? You made 850/810. Was it the pump maxed out or the id1300’s at that point?

That's a great question. I do remember Sam (ByDesign) mentioned that we were on the high end of the stock fuel pump capacity. But I'm not sure about injectors. I think we still had a bit more room if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that.

Bear in mind the stock rods won’t sustain these power levels for long…

Yes, that is absolutely correct. My engine is built with Carillo rods, EVOMS head studs, 3.8L, etc.... if stock, my rods would have been bent very quickly I think.
