Brand new here. Not a Porsche owner but looking to become one soon. I'm a big racing fan and have admired these cars for a long time. Time for a change! Need some guidance. Moving over from Ferraris and it has not been an easy decision. Recently sold a ferrari and looking to replace with 2 cars. Already got my fun track car a mustang Gt 350 R. Looking to add a Porsche to the stable! What is you all's opinion on a 2009 Turbo. This will be a weekend/ summer car, no plans to track it and also an investment of sorts. I hate the stock market and I'm a motor head. I do vintage races on a 1960 lotus 18!!! Thanks!
I sold my Gallardo due to high market prices and ended up picking up a 2009 6 speed tt.. I absolutely love the car. I owned a c4s previously and sold due to a divorce and always figured I would get back into a c4s later on but after the Gallardo went I decided to pickup a 997tt with 6 speed. Although I wasn't set on a 09 (mainly due to lack of knowledge at the time) but am extremely happy I got the 09. The updated interior makes the car look almost brand new (I upgraded to a 992 steering wheel as well). I also put in numeric shifter and cables, engine mounts, trans mounts as well as a bunch of maintenance items (coolant line pinning, clutch, ect).
The f cars are great as I've driven plenty (360s,430s, a 458) and the lambo was a great car as well but in my 7 or 8 years of ownership I never once drove the car to work and after the first year it was a pain when I just wanted to drive (too much attention). The Porsche blends in and isn't too look at me. I've put about as many miles on the 997tt in 1.5 years as I did in the Gallardo over 8 years.
Awesome! Glad to hear you are enjoying the 2009 TT. I agree too much attention on the Italian cars and maintenance is so lofty. If I do take the plunge, I plan ro pin the coolant lines and the cam issues as well. Thanks and GL!
Unless you are dead set on getting a 2009 so that you have the famed Mezger engine, you might also want to consider a 997.2. You get the more modern interior without having to worry about coolant lines and cam issues. There are lots of discussions on Rennlist about whether the 997.1 is better than the 997.2 and I am not going to wade into that discussion. Just thought it would be something for you to consider. Color is very important to me so I was looking at 997.1 and 997.2; the 997.2 just happened to be available.
The reliability of the 997.2 turbo NON mezger engine is on par with the mezger and you get an engine still in production today with not much change and more power
Thanks for all the inputs folks! I got the 2009 turbo from Grand prix motors! Hope it lives up to the expectation!! Excited for this new chapter! Will share pics when she gets delivered!
Thanks! the first dive was awesome. Lotus like handling (just not there) but amazing feel and cornering through the gears and so steady and powerful through the straights! Whole different feel while driving! cant wait to experience this feeling more !!
