Where did you stuff the blue controller box? Driver side footwell next to center console? Also did you use it wired and wireless? The wired USB connector can be routed out and positioned in a good spot?

i stuffed the box in the passenger footwell in my macan. i use wireless carplay but i have the usb cable tucked somewhere that i can get to it if really need be. there are some things that can be updated over the usb. also keep in mind mr 12volt updates have to be done over the sd card slot on the box itself. those updates should be rare but don't mount the box somewhere that requires taking the car apart just in case.

Are these types of Carplay upgrades better or the ones that replace the whole PCM with their own ***** and bigger screen better?

I feel like these are a worse option then a full replacement deck. The advantage of these units is it is a completely stock appearance. The only real reason I would say to go with one of these is to keep the stereo looking stock. On my unit each time I start the car I need to go to the carplay menu (hold nav for 5s) then click on my phone to get it to connect right away. You also need to swap your input each time switching between carplay and radio/ect. With new decks they turn on and just work flawlessly. If you dont care about retaining the stock pcm and look of the interior in my mind there is no sense to go this route. I looked at many headunits and wasn't a fan of the way they would look in our interior.

997.2 PCM 3 Upgrade
My local Porsche enthusiast sales manager said a Porsche PCM 3 entertainment upgrade for 997.2 models (similar to the recently released 997.1 version) would be released in October 2023, not sure how reliable this info is.

i also have experience with RSNAV which is a very popular similar solution for audi. it was far less stable and reliable than Mr12Volt.

He said that he put the upgraded system in his 997.1 Turbo, really enjoyed it and I should do the same to mine. I said I couldn't because it's a 997.2 version (which he hadn't realized yet) at which point he said the ".2" version would be out in October. I didn't ask him anymore about it.

i disagree completely. i have a Mr12Volt in my macan with PCM 3.1 and it automatically launches in the last input i had it on, so if that was carplay, i get carplay, if that wasn't carplay, i get whatever else. i never have to touch anything or take my phone out of my pocket. i am pretty sure it works the same way for PCM 3. it has been rock solid and yet to fail to connect wirelessly. my macan is my daily too so i use it multiple times a day.

Yes, I believe so. I've spent probably years deliberating on the best carplay option. I went from first considering an aftermarket headunit, to seeing all the other more sophisticated options come through like 9xx, NMAutomotive, various Aliexpress offerings like JoyeAuto and some full headunit replacements, and then finally Mr12volt. Fantastic fiber optic audio. The one complaint I have is that it shows up on my dashboard screen as "P2000 CarPlay" and doesn't show track info or anything like that but no biggie.

I am still running the Dension in my 997.1TT. The bluetooth audio is great, but ever since new it just won't connect from time to time. If it worked all the time I wouldn't be reading this thread...
