Appreciate your advice. At this point they are still in good order and I can replace with motor installed. I'm sure the Porsche tech would have added these to the 3 page long list of replaced parts if there was the slightest doubt that they could be worn out!

It's actually not all that bad. I think most members on here that have done it would agree with me when I say that once you remove your engine a few times it becomes easier each go-around. I've owned my car for 11 months and have had the engine out twice. Once to pin the coolant pipes and cams, and the most recent to replace the clutch. I timed myself on the clutch job and the engine was out in under 2 hours. Other work that I would do while the engine is out is to modify the power steering feed hose that always leaks.
Cam timing isn't a terrible procedure especially with this forum and the members that contribute and help.

Definitely excited to get the 997 back next week and take it out for a spin. Curious if the spun camshaft actually impeded performance. I would have loved to complete this project on my own but I do not have a car lift and the 997 is my only car. Even though the project is costing me an arm and a leg I did get a Cayenne loaner for a month and will have a 2 year full warranty from my local Porsche dealer for all the work they performed. I did consider buying a lift for the project but really just don't have the bandwidth, experience and supporting massive tool selection for such an advanced engine. All things considered I solved the cam and waterpipe pinning issues, installed the Sharkwerks metal pipes, replaced the waterpump and most of the coolant hoses on the engine, new plugs and coils, all new o-rings and seals and a new gearbox seal. Most importantly the spun camshaft was resolved prior to causing additional damage. Should have some worry free miles ahead of me.....
Like you said, if you had a second car, that would have helped you make the decision to invest in some equipment gain some experience. It certainly made it easier for me . Even so there are a ton of things you can do yourself and eventually you may want some sort of lifting gear to make doing those things easier. At the same time, I remember driving the head of my '77 Honda Accord to the machine shop strapped to the back of my '86 Kawasaki when I was 24, so you make do with what you have.
By handling these issues you are removing all of the significant problems you may face during ownership, and that will translate into fun running the car. And that's worth a lot.

This is a SMOKING deal from an actual Porsche dealership. Wow!
I definitely agree. Chris the Service Manager took great care of me. Promised that the total would not exceed 10k and kept his word. I plan to scan and share the paperwork. Should be a very comprehensive list of parts and related cost. I do know that there was a discount applied to the parts. Also had the pleasure of meeting the technician that performed the work. Took his time to explain the cams to me and showed me what the spun camshaft looked like. Nothing like personal attention and knowing your customer. On a personal level I try harder when I know who I am delivering my product to.
+1 on Leith where I had my coolant pipes redone. Same experience. They knew about Sharkwerks pipes and did them. No namby pamby about not an approved Porsche part.
Lucky I did mine at 89K miles, so we threw in a 90K service and all the "while we're in there" we could think of.
That's the exact same service bay at Leith that my car was in.
Love the color of your 997! Chris spoke about the work done to your car as well. I'm pretty interested in your maintenance experience noting that your 997 has 90K plus miles. Aside from the usual any other large items you had to address?
