Default Cobb AP Handheld in my CPO 2012 Turbo S

I finally got my CPO 2012 Turbo S home...found a COBB AP Handheld in the Glove Box . Also looking in the engine bay the car has an IPD intake plenum installed. Since the car is CPO the dealer told me the ECU was stock. I connected the AP to the AP Manager on my laptop and found this info:

AP3-POR-002 v1.7.3.1-16388
Vehicle Name: Porsche 911 Turbo S (997.2) 3.8L TT 38TUS26
Vehicle ID: PORS_911_9972_C838_TUS26 (Installed)
Transmission ID: PORS_997_PDK_T082_CT1D82ZUJ (Installed)
Serial: POR0200192
Upgrade Serial: 00000 Original Serial: 629000c0
ECU Reflash map: Stage2 93 v103
Transmission reflash map: COBB Sport v202

Looks like the car had a Stage 2 ECU map installed and a TCU map, and the AP is still married to the car. Would the dealer have reflashed this to stock or would they even bother with all this? Is there any way to find out what map is on the car? The car has the following mods:
  • IPD Plenum
  • Sharwerks exhaust (dealer said the cats were OEM but now I am not so sure)
  • I found a pair of Audi 710N DVs in a box in the "frunk". Now I am not sure what BCVs are on the car...any way to check?
  • Car had Fabspeed headers but the dealer swapped in the stock headers
So it looks like the car has or had a Stage 2 map. In the CPO process would the dealer have flashed the ECU back to stock?

Thanks in advance.

OEM cats are very distinctive and easy to check, see the first picture in this thread:

You could make a stink with the dealer if you believe you were misled, they could probably work something with a dealer local to you to reflash it back to stock. Cobb has a "stage 0" tune that is their clone of the factory tune that you could also consider. What you listed all seem like good things to me, like finding some unexpected cash in an old jacket pocket.

So the car can't be running stage 2 with stock cats right? Won't it throw a CEL?

No, it can run a stage 2 map with stock cats and exhaust. Highly not recommended what-so-ever though.

Cobb states you should run an aftermarket exhaust including larger pipes and free-flowing cats to run stage 2. Looks like you were half-way there with the Sharkwerks muffler delete. I don't think it would throw a CEL but would make less power than what Cobb advertises due to higher exhaust backpressure. On the otherhand it could be fine. You can always back off to stage 1 (stock exhaust) if you are worried about it. Does it have both the IPD plenum and Y-pipe? You might want to take a look at the intercoolers as their could be a pleasant surprise there too.

Also notice very slight vibration at idle. Normal with these cars?

I'd check the intercoolers too for prior upgrades as @PV997 mentioned above. (And if you see stock ones you can add that to your future mod wishlist, lol.) Vibration could be normal or various things but again, maybe it has upgraded engine mounts which do add a little NVH, are easy to spot as most use materials/colors that look very different vs stock. Unless there is a misfire or whatnot which I think would show on a code scan with the Cobb or else a data log.

I am new to all things 911 so have to figure some things out. The car has stock cats. Is there an easy way to check intercoolers without taking stuff apart? I have also contacted Cobb to see if they have any info. Could the dealer have flashed the ECU without using the AP? I just connected the AP to the access port manager software on my laptop to see what was on it. I didn't connect to the OBD port yet. No misfires in the car since dealer said everything checked out. Not sure about motor mounts either. Are there aftermarket dynamic mounts available for the TTS and do people change out the dynamic mounts?

Also aren't the 997.2 intercoolers pretty efficient?

What would be the potential issue? Too much back pressure?

This car keeps surprising in a good way. Someone has spent some money on modding it. Some of it does seem random though. Maybe it was catless and the dealer put the stock cats back on before posting it for sale...

I believe the dealer has the tools to flash an ecu without the cobb. Did they do it? I am not sure how to confirm without asking them.

They have been pretty cagey about answering these questions. Will reach out to the service manager and ask.

Yes, the aftermarket free-flowing cats have 100 or 200 cpi (cells per inch) as opposed to the factory cats which are something like 600 cpi. So the free-flowing cats have bigger openings and are less restrictive, there's less resistance to exhaust flow. Stef at Europipe has written about this a lot, search some of his old posts if you want to learn more. I've never heard of aftermarket dynamic engine mounts but maybe someone else has. You can easily check to see what's there. The mounts are visible to the right and left of the airbox, if they have a cable plugged in they are almost certainly stock and have't been replaced with static mounts. My car doesn't shake at idle at least that I've noticed. Other have posted that they can see the passenger seat slightly vibrating so it wouldn't concern me too much unless the idle was rough.

You can see the intercooler fins from the vents at the bottom of the bumper but that won't tell you too much. The 997.2 has improved intercoolers from the 997.1 and older turbos often upgrade. Aftermarket intercoolers typically are all metal as opposed to the factory end caps which are plastic. I think you can see it by removing a fender liner next time you have a wheel off.

Based on the parts you've mentioned the previous owner spent about $4.5k in engine upgrades, that's a good thing!
