Turbo/turbine Insulation Jacket
PLEASE NOTE: After posting this thread, I asked Sam at ByDesign for his input and here is a cut and paste for his response:
I’m really glad you asked this. The factory turbo chargers have oil and water lines coming through them so they are cooled. On the VTG it’s a heater controls game. We want the opposite we want to dissipate not retain heat because we are in constant danger of high exhaust gas temperature’s. You’re on the right track but on this car the turbine is just so small and already at its limit. Generally we want these blankets to help with response and keep temperatures up but in this car they are already up and we try to keep them down.
Just ran across these while perusing CarID...makes sense to me. Anything to keep the heat down in the engine bay and especially if what they claim that it aids in keeping the exhaust side of the Turbine hotter and the air intake side of the Turbo cooler is true, which again makes sense to me. Has anyone had any experience with these?
