Default Shopping for a 997.1 Turbo - How much does the number of previous owners matter?

I'm currently in the final stages of shopping for a 997 Turbo. Throughout my search, I have come across a few cars that I really like but have higher numbers of previous owners on the carfax. I understand that at times carfax will add multiple previous owners for one individual or list dealerships who purchased the car as owners. That being said, I'm not concerned for myself but rather for resale. Would you be put off from buying a 6 or 7 owner car? Should I be worried about my prospects when I ultimately go to sell?

I'm kind of in the same boat. Most cars I have looked at are in the 3-5 range, not counting dealers taking title. I am not really concerned, but it will be interesting to see what others say.

Wouldn't bother me too much. For a lot of guys into these sorts of cars, they're just disposable toys they get bored with after 6-12 months or whenever the next shiny thing catches their fancy.

The biggest concern IMO is not having gaps in the maintenance history, and the potential for "stories" to get lost if some owners in the chain are less meticulous in record keeping. In other words, if there's consistent documentation and the condition is fully accounted for, not much to worry about.

Fewer is better but in the end, all about personal preference and risk tolerance. Make sure the car you are buying is the one YOU want and worry much less about the prior owner(s), as long as the PPI is good.

The condition and service history of the car is what matters. Also, as already stated, these cars are toys. Most of them have a 1-2 year life span with each owner before they move on to the next guy. Very, very common resale pattern. 07s are nearly 12 years old now. I would say 4-5 owners is probably around the average at this point for most cars.

I think we have a consensus...3 or 4 or 5 or even 6 is okay as long as the service records look good and a PPI is done. Having said that, of course if you find a one or two owner car that is definitely a feather in it's cap. I just bought my 2007 in August....2 owner car with 21K miles.

Yeah owners can be plentiful.... my TT(2008) I’m the 5th owner and bought it at 19,000 miles. No service records but good ppi etc.
My cayman(2008 also) I bought from the original owner at 112,000 miles, full records etc. did my own ppi on that car in person. The cayman was in nearly as good of condition as the 911(and the 911 is nearly flawless).
To me the condition is the most important. I got lucky on the condition of both(though I looked at over a dozen cars of each type before finding those two). The 911 I paid a premium for I know(hard to find with colors/options I wanted) whereas the cayman I got for a great price due to the miles.
So I wouldn’t rule out cars by miles either.

Well I ended up picking up one of the cars I was looking at, yesterday afternoon. 2007 model with 38,000 miles and four previous owners. Can’t wait to pick it up!
