Default 997.1 TT DME Thoughts

Good Morning, looking to buy a 2007 997.1 turbo with the following DME. Range 5 has me thinking, but not sure if it is a big deal. Searched the forums, but seems like everyone has different feedback on each car based on the results, so I listed this one below for your thoughts.

Range 1- 18536, operating hours 1728.3
Range 2 -1917, operating hours 1726.2
Range 3- 310, operating hours 1414.5
Range 4- 228, operating hours 1414.5
Range 5- 118, operating hours 1413.4
Range 6- 0, operating hours 0

Lost some sleep tonight about this and looking for people's thoughts. Car has about 63K miles.

63,000 miles. Couldn't find in report the hours. No info on tune. Car was traded in to a jeep dealership and sold to a non franchise dealer.

You have incomplete info. Hard to make mature decision with 1/3-1/2 the data. Range 5s are never good. Without the full picture, I'd pass. At the very least, you'd need to buy an aftermarket powertrain warranty, as a hedge.

well, not completely meaningless.

we know it's been 315 hours since any significant overrev ( >2 ), so there is that info.

What we don't know is the average speed, which might tell us if it was a Sunday driver or not.

118 in range 5 would give me pause, however.

Besides the number of operating hours and if there is a tune, what other info should I ask for?

Well you've got range 1 and 2s at 1,700 or so hours. As a guess using 30 to 35mph as an average speed to the 63k miles, you've probably got a little over 2k hours in it. That's just a guess based on the data presented. Looks like the range 3, 4 and 5 all happened around the same time/shift potentially. If it's a car you want and prices right, I would get a full pre purchase inspection by a reputable Porsche mechanic and go from there.

To help ease your mind, I'm at 705 hours and 21K miles, comes out to about 29 miles for every hour driven. Extrapolating at 63K miles you're looking at ~2000 hours on the car currently and 45K miles at the moment it recorded the range 3-5. The range 5 would bother me, too, but considering this likely happened a few hundred hours and several thousand miles ago I wouldn't be overly concerned, keyword overly.

I am considering this car as the asking price is $59,000 and a 6 speed. Just don't want to be blinded by the price if the dme is not good. Porsche did the inspection on it per his receipt but I will call this morning and talk to them.

Call your local Porsche dealership(s). Ask them what aftermarket warranty plans they work with and consider respectable.
Ask the Jeep dealership to sell you that warranty product at cost. Should be around $2K.
Ask Jeep dealership for a 90-day warranty.
Good luck with your purchase.

Assuming the total hours are in line with expectations, which is probably true since bonafide DME tampering is pretty rare, I'd say you'd have nothing to worry about if it passes the usual PPI. Over 300 hours (around 11k miles or more) since the incident with no problems.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Decided to pass based on the car also having an aftermarket gt front bumper and rear spoiler with bad fitment.
