Default faded leather on steering wheel. What are my options?

2007 with thicker wheel with round center. The black leather is super shiny and has faded marks in places. I'm hearing dyeing is not the answer from several auto shops. Ive heard of Dallas Steering wheel in TX and looked at the work online and it looked good but then I have to figure out how to remove my wheel and send it and wait. I think they also give me the option of just buying a wheel already re-upholstered for more money or maybe a core exchange.

Iv'e seen folks put a tech art wheel or other brands of shaped wheels but have not looked into this. Also seen folks upgrade to .2 wheels or newer but I have a manual car and don't want the paddles or multi function that won't work on my car. How have others solved ultra shiny or faded leather on the steering wheel?

Thanks,

Tom

I have used Leatherique for years on m 993 then the TT. Just for maintaining, not for faded.

Might be worth a try.

I can recommend Dallas Custom Wheel with high confidence. Pricing is very fair. Turnaround time is a week. Options are good and the communication with Don, the owner, is quick.

The shiny wheel felt old and tired. Hated the feel of it. The new leather transforms the feel. Removing and replacing the steering wheel is a very simple job. Level 1.5 or 2 difficulty on a 1-10 scale. This forum will help you do it.

Here is a before and after picture of my wheel I did on my 993 using Leatherique steering wheel refinishing kit. I needed to wait much longer for it to cure (a couple of days) than the instructions said but the results were quite good.

The new steering wheels are hellishly expensive - I was lucky to find a new-in-box XPA (thicker) wheel on ebay from a private seller and indeed a made a tremendous difference in driving feel & enjoyment.

Looks incredible! If removal and replacement are reasonably doable for me this might be my route.

Actually need to do it on a Lexus SUV I have also.

Great improvement but I'm liking the look of matte finish for me. So that helps me determine my route, thanks for sharing the photos!

Were both wheels already the thicker option and you went even thicker? I like thicker.

I got mine done by Ledermanz. He can also do the core exchange route, but I didn't want to sit around and deal with the wait time. So I ordered a core + custom wrap service from him. Top notch quality and competitive pricing.

I got mine re-covered and very happy with the results. Feels like new at a fraction of the price (300€).

Just curious if they elaborated on why the dyeing route is not good. Does that apply to just the steering wheel? How about the seats? The reason why I'm asking is because I've considered touching up parts of my seats with dye.
