Just curious if they elaborated on why the dyeing route is not good. Does that apply to just the steering wheel? How about the seats? The reason why I'm asking is because I've considered touching up parts of my seats with dye.
Because it's such a contact point with hands that may be sweaty etc... I think seats would be ok or other parts not touched all the time. They said it has a very short life of looking good before it begins to come off or flake.
Also seen folks upgrade to .2 wheels or newer but I have a manual car and don't want the paddles or multi function that won't work on my car. How have others solved ultra shiny or faded leather on the steering wheel?
Tom, I got the "manual" .2 Sport Design alcantara steering wheel for my .1 and got the airbag for the .2 steering wheel from eBay. Then all I had to do to get the horn to work is program the steering wheel module for multi-function steering wheel and that was it. I ordered the new .2 steering wheel from Suncoast Porsche. No issues and I have the updated look I was going for. You can also get the manual .2 Sport Design steering wheel in Leather as well.
I see quite a bit of work done on buddies GT3 RS's by Exclusive Option on the West Coast. Also I visited their booth at the Werks Reunion in Monterey this past weekend. They "refurbish" if you will, with new leather to any color including OEM, custom color stitching etc. They do very nice work and essentially work on any piece of OEM plastic, leather covered plastic, etc.
