You can mod all you want, will never match the performance of a stock 991.2 Turbo. It will leave you in the rear all day all night.

Uh, no, sorry. There are plenty of modded 997s that will destroy a stock 991.2. Remember, you can get 7-800hp with bolt ons, IC change, and bigger turbos, and while you might not get the stoplight jump on the 991's PDK, you will take it from a roll or catch up to it soon enough.

Want to compare modded vs modded?

Here is a great comparison. I don't see the 991 walking away....

Haha! I knew someone would shoot that comment down. I would love for a 991.2 to go up against me. From a dig I'll admit they will probably take me since I am sure I'll crap my shift up.

Also, my intent in modding my car is not to match the performance of a 991.2TT - I just want to customize my car to suit my tastes and to enjoy good handling and a six-speed manual transmission to have fun on the awesome back roads of Northern California and the Sawtooth mountains in Idaho!

I'm definitely not trying to compete with anyone. Just out to have fun with a car that is exactly how I like it.

And now that I've "saved" all that money by not buying a new 991TTS, I'll pick up another fun 991 non-turbo of my liking just for kicks!

My car is has a very mild set of mods (Europipe, 200 CEL cats, and a custom Cobb Tune from TopSpeed here in Atlanta). One of my best car buddies has a 2018 TTS, bone stock. I pull away on him..... Not by much, but I have never been shown his rear bumper.

Folks, I don't think atcbi5 was talking about not beating a 991.2 TTS from a Dig or Roll (mod for mod or stock). I took it to mean he was referring to "lap times" on a track. (chassis, suspension, etc. mods).

If you mod a 997TTS enough suspension , chassis, etc. enough, will is be enough to out do a 991.2 TTS with it's advancements???

That's how I took it. We all know, all it takes to go fast / quick in a straight line is MONEY!! But to go around a track quicker, it's take more than just money and throw parts at it.

Also, since he knows the OP has a 6MT vs. the 991.2 TTS's PDK, that further led me to think he was referring to lap times. PDK's hard to beat for that purpose, and on the 991.2TTS, certainly harder to beat.

If paying for a 991/992 TTS is "not an issue" I'd be at the Porsche dealer tomorrow morning ordering one. My 2 cents anywho.

You know, I've spent too many years chasing the latest and greatest, and while being fortunate to be able to afford a new TTS, I've often looked back and thought "damn, I wish I would have kept that car because I now regret selling it." So I decided to stick to my guns this time and keep what I have and just do some nice improvements that will suit me, not to track the car or be the fastest, but just to enjoy driving the way I like to drive a sports car. I'm not the original owner of my 997.1TT, but damn close - I purchased this 2007 TT with 2,517 miles on the odometer nine years ago. It was for all intents and purposes a brand new car. So I have a history with this car (including a very memorable coast to coast epic road trip in 2009) that means something to me. This car has never let me down. I still look at the car all the time and think, that is such a nice looking 911, the lines are just perfect. I realize that is very subjective, but that is how my mind sees the car.

My driving ability will never exceed the capabilities of this car, so objectively speaking, it again doesn't make sense for me to chase the latest and greatest.

And I do plan on buying some kind of the 991 generation 911, but not the big-T Turbo. I don't know what yet, but figuring out what I do want to buy is half the fun.

I also see the tide turning in favor of the 997 Turbo. It might be slow in coming, but it's started to happen. These cars were kind of unloved there for a while, but I think car enthusiasts will eventually come around to realizing what a really great car Porsche delivered with the 997 generation Turbo.

I agree with keeping the 997!!. I like the looks of them better!(biased I know!)
Driving a 991 immediately back to back with my 997 I thought the 997 was a better experience in that I felt more connected to the car and it felt more sporty as opposed to a grand tourer. More raw. The hydraulic vrs electric steering is very different(especially on crappy Michigan roads). I imagine after getting used to electric and going back to hydraulic would be a shock also though(guess it’s what you’re used to).
That being said I will also probably get a 991 at some time but don’t see me letting go of my 997 ever.

My car is at Sharkwerks right now to dial down the grand touring personality and to dial up the "raw" personality. I will definitely report back once my car is done (end of next week) to give my impressions on how the changes have affected the feel and handling of the car. I will know soon enough!

Picked up my car at Sharkwerks today - WOW! This will unfortunately all sound very cliche, but I don't know how else to describe it.

Handling has truly been transformed, it has become, for me anyway, a perfectly sorted car. The car is so much more planted, no more of that floaty feeling in the suspension, just perfect. The car almost seems telepathic - it goes where your mind thinks it should be going with the slightest amount of physical effort. The power now also seems perfectly aligned with the suspension upgrades, about 550 hp or so, more if I put higher octane gas in the car, which is not very convenient in California, but I can run down to Sonoma Raceway on occasion to fill up with 100 octane. The short-shift kit is sublime, a big improvement on the OEM shift setup.

In two weeks I'm taking my car to Car Audio Innovations in Roseville for the custom audio installation, well, because I gotta have loud rock music in my Turbo!

Here are all the mods:

EVOMSit tune
HRE Monoblok P43SC 19 inch wheels
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires
TechArt Lowering Spring Kit
Numeric Racing Precision Shifter
RSS Tarmac engine mounts
RSS Adjustable Rear-link Kit
RSS Adjustable Toe Steer Kit
H&R Front Sway Bar
H&R Rear Sway Bar
TechArt tail pipes

Outstanding!!

I'd love to feel the difference in a modded suspension compared to my stock stuff someday.
