Default tiptronic issues

Gents

I've recently had a couple of moments when the car stays in third gear. Switching to manual makes no difference and it stays in 3rd even if you stop and pull away again.. I suspect a visit to my local Porsche garage is in order but thought I'd ask on here first.

I plugged my durametric in tonight and got the following error messages:

Tiptronic-
2221 ATF temperature sensor implausible signal
2562 Gear 3 slips

Bosche Digital Motor Electronics Motronic-
P0730 Incorrect gear ratio

I cleared the errors and took the car for a short drive. The same thing happened and I stopped and switched the ignition off and started again and the car drove home with no further problems. Faults 2562 and P0730 have come back. I guess its a wallet out job, but any ideas spring to mind?

Just had the call from my local opc saying I need a new gearbox at £11000. Not happy with this in the slightest. Especially as the car drove there with no issues. I'm sure it's only a selection problem but they can't find anything else wrong. They dropped the transmission fluid to look for debris and there was none. Just weighing up my options now but the car will not be going back to them.

I would start scouring the wrecking yards for a totaled car. A Tip trans with 100K miles on it is better than £11000 for a new one.

45000 miles on it. Apparently Porsche will not strip the transmission to investigate but would normally just change out the gearbox. Unfortunately I can't really afford that luxury. As far as I'm aware, all they did was run diagnostics on it, test the wiring loom and drain/inspect the fluid. They did find that it took 1.5l more fluid to fill it compared to what was drained, even though the level indication was OK.
Do any of you guys have a procedure for testing the valve body? To me it still seems to be a selection control problem rather than a major component failure.

I believe the tip transmission is a Mercedes transmission. I've also been told that MB shops are much more willing (and better) at troubleshooting and repairing these transmissions.

This is bang on. I had a minor trans fluid leak, Porsche couldn't find the problem and recommended replacement - a Mercedes trans specialist charged me $200 to diagnose and repair.

I was told by my indie shop machanic that Porsche never would troubleshoot the trans and would always advise or require it to be replaced.

THANK YOU for this I had no idea about this. Can you provide any other info such as the trans type or something to help a MB tech to be able to troubleshoot / identify what they are working with?
