Default Audi OEM battery as an option to replace Porsche OEM battery?

I was reading this Rennlist article on some 997 battery replacement options and it suggested that the Audi battery was the same as the Porsche battery without the Porsche logo for less than half the price. I checked my two local Canadian dealerships (Audi and Porsche), and the price for the Audi DH battery is $175.71 CAD vs. The OEM Porsche for $374.92 CAD. Both look the same and are rated the same at 80 Ah and 380A. I asked the parts guy at Porsche if he knew anything about the Audi battery as an option for the Porsche and he did not.

Has anyone gone this route? Can you confirm they are in fact the same battery?

I don't know if that particular battery is the same as the Porsche battery, but I have replaced the Porsche battery with other manufacturer batteries with the same rating, and they worked fine.

I've gone with the Audi battery in 997s. I was assured it was identical to the original Porsche battery. Visually it was identical, as were the specs.
Only difference was the extra cash left in my wallet!

Ive been using walmart brand, Advance Auto parts and Oreilly Batteries at my Porsches and Ferraris.

My GTS is having its annual service and they noted the battery to be low and quoted me $450. Of course its low, it hasnt been used for 1 month. But I just replaced my non-tracked RS with a no maintenance battery from Advance AP and always is around 220-250 minus $25 for the old battery.

So I know the car wont explode with a nonporsche battery.

I've been using Autozone or Interstate replacement batteries for a few decades, no problems at all. No reason to worry about Porsche or Audi branding. Currently have Autozone, battery failed prematurely, took it to Autozone, they checked it, and handed me a new battery under warranty. Very simple DIY.

Walmart is the best one. Free replacements for life. Just walk in drop off get a new one, no questions asked. Nobody cares and the last time I went it was like “just get a new one”. Ok.

I may check Walmart next time, but so far I have only been in a Walmart twice in my life and not a fan. Walmart 7 miles away and too many people, Autozone a mile or so and not crowded.

I always laugh at these battery threads. Zero reason to worry about OEM. The damn batteries cost usually under $200. With everything that could go wrong with our cars and cost thousands, batteries are a cheapo quick wear item and easily replaced DIY in under 10 minutes.

You can spend more but at the end of the day it’s just 12 volts. Also, Walmart has a great selection of Mobil 1 oil at great prices! Great selection of detail products also at discounted prices. I personally do not use the Mobil 1 swill oil, Motul 100%.

I agree, there is nothing special about the OE battery. I purchased a replacement at autozone... exact same fitment with vent tube and all for $199. It was in-stock, and they installed it right there in 5 minutes.

Only thing I'd consider doing differently is to look into a lightweight battery. The 997 battery is huge, heavy, and installed pretty high up off the ground.

+1 for non-OEM battery - did Interstate on mine @$205 - would have done Walmart but was less convenient.

Also +1 on Mobil1 @ Walmart - I usually stock up when they have it on special as I historically do the oil changes on both my Cayenne and 997...

Hey, did you replace your battery with Audi brand? If so, what's the part number?

Just verify that the Audi branded batteries you are buying are "wet"...otherwise you need to add battery acid (more $$ and risk).
