GT2 Slave convert or R&R stock Slave & pull coupler?
I am consuming Pentosin. No evidence of it in the trunk or engine compartment .My guess is the slave on the transmission, which I will get a good look at when I R&R the starter to fix my non start issue.
Question is:
1. Do I remove the coupler in the PS Pump and install another stock slave (with the hopes that the failure is caused by the power assist shoving fluid into a part that wasn't designed for that and knowing I will no longer be doing that with the coupler removed)?
or
2. Either purchase or cobble together a GT2 slave replacement. From my reading, the 997 requires a different bracket. There was a gentleman making them for the 996 (I have to track him down and see if he makes one for the 997) and you need a longer hydraulic hose, but other then the GT2 slave part, all other parts can be used (once you get rid of ALL the Pentosin and switch to DOT 4 brake fluid).
The stock slave is about $500 ($250 used - which is problematic since these parts fail), the kit is @ $1000 depending on where you get it, and I think I can cobble one together for about $600 or so.
My gut says go GT2, which if I can find a bracket and a hydraulic hose would be a no brainer from a financial perspective, but if all I need to do is replace the slave and stop squishing Pentosin into it to make it last, there is less BS involved.
Anyone have any opinions?
Ed
PS: Went looking for slaves, and on one site they were listing slaves for this year 991 Turbo that no way, no how would fit the car. They were very inexpensive, but would only make a nice paperweight.

Ed, do your race/track your car?
If you don't track your car, buy the factory replacement slave and new accumulator.. Be done with it. The failure rate is 1 per every 4 to 5 years if daily driven. Don't buy used.
Multiple places to lose Pentosin>>like on a failing power steering rack>> it is happening depending on miles.
Other leaks>> Blown Accumulator, and clutch master cylinder (rare).

i have a 996 tt p/s unit with coupler already removed, reservoir and gt2 slave and clutch fork that came out of my turbo. i went to a tilton clutch and no longer need them. can make you a good deal if you want to go the gt2 route. you would need a gt2 hose and m/c to complete the conversion

Hmm, interesting, never heard of any BBI failures before this moment. I know that my stock slave failed twice on my 6 turbo. Some consider the stock slave a maintenance item.

not oem turbo slave but oem gt2 slave
thats fixed by simply removing the coupler and doing a oem gt2 conversion with oem parts. or do like i did and run a tilton triple disk metallic and remove the slave altogether. uses a hyd release bearing going from a pull setup to a push setup.

Hello all,
For those who have done this conversion, does the GT2 assist spring make a big difference in reducing pedal effort? I am fine with my conversion on my 997TT but my wife finds the pedal too heavy when she drives the car on occasion.
Thx!
