Default 2008 GT2 Issues

I'm thinking about moving into a 2008 GT2. Does it have the same IMS bearing and coolant pipe issues that other TT cars have?

Same basic engine components. Main differences are the turbos, suspension, drive system and exterior bits.

That's awesome! Going back to the Mezger!

Is that similar to my CTT's cam bolt problem that's now under recall?

No, also known as the spun camshaft.. lots of threads here on it.. just search this forum for "spun camshaft".. No recall was ever created.

No. 997.1TT and GT2 have the same camshafts that have a sleeve pressed on, the sleeve has holes to allow oil flow through. The sleeve can spin restricting oil flow or worst case complete blockage.

Wow, did not know this. I thought I knew what the main problems were but this is a new one to me. It seems to be isolated to the Mezger 996 and 997.1 TT's.
But it doesn't appear to be a common problem - yet. Perhaps given more time and miles it will but I don't want to start that discussion now.

Funny because I don't believe fidelity will cover a Gt2 Although they offer coverage for turbos

I have Gt2 turbochargers so I have the best of both worlds

Are the engine internals or transmission very different between the GT2 and 997.1TT? I know the GT2 transmission has an oil cooler...

Engine long block same. GT2 has different intake manifold, turbos, exhaust.
Correct, GT2 trans have cooler. All GT2 have LSD, its optional on Turbo. There's some internal differences but I don't know every item, I do know that the items are interchangeable.

I'm curious- I've been looking (haven't done a deep dive yet) at two 2008 GT2's for sale in Houston, one yellow and one gray. The yellow has a longer list of gingerbread options and less miles (6,600) but the gray is nicely optioned too with a lot more miles (54K if I recall). The only difference between them appears to be the miles yet the delta between the two is approximately $60K. Do GT2 miles really count that much? Coming from the TT/TTS world miles do make a slight difference but it's not that excessive.
