i've had my '07 TT Tip almost 5 yrs- bought CPO car with 19kmiles from dealer after it came down >$20k-, couldn't pass it up for price, bought it & sold my '02 996C2- I didn't search out a tip but i love this car every time i'm in it. IMO Tip is fine as long as u keep it in manual mode. The tip gearing is much different than a 6 sp- I find auto mode is always a gear or 2 too high for me. Of course,Tip is light yrs behind the PDK- no comparison. If u're looking at PDK cars, take test drive in a TT tip & see if its for you.

Lots of useful tiptronic comments on this thread. I’m searching for a MT 997.1 TT ( will be my first P car ) and I should drive a tip.

Had an '07 997 Turbo Tip as my first 911 earlier. It was ok and turbo power delivery is quite fun. But the tip just felt dated and the 5-speed seemed to have too long gearing.

When I had a chance to trade up for a 997.2 Turbo S (ok, I was originally looking for a .2 Turbo "only"), the PDK experience was just worlds apart. I can also say that the upgraded exterior/interior and overall build quality was definitely worth the big price difference.

Today, I also have a 991.2 CS which is another huge jump over 997's in terms of overall dynamics. However, the 997 TTS is such a beauty that it still has a place in my garage.

So if I'm asked about tips, I would definitely recommend to skip it and go 997.2 PDK. The 997.2 may be old vs 991's but in my opinion, it provides an analogue feel of a sports car with most of the modern features for hassle free ownership. I think 997.2's will be a future classic.
