most likely would not be a bad buy at say 57-59k
Don't get caught up on that lower mileage / low price. Remember you can't polish a turd.
Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

I have been to ALM a few times to look at cars and always leave disappointed in the condition.
I agree, keep looking and find one that is nicer. The little problems will add up to $$ in a hurry, not to mention the known larger issues...

I wouldn't do it.
By the looks of it the car was owned by someone who needs to get from point A to point B, but likes to have fun... based on the mods. I've looked at a similar example minus the mods or a car accident, which makes me even more concerned for you.
My GF and I went to take a look at a very similar car in Connecticut, so a 3 hour drive for us. I was huffing and puffing about how much I wanted it but things didn't seem right. I talked them down to 55K (color and condition exactly the same as yours but minus the mods or accident). It still didn't feel right so I stepped outside, got on the phone with a dealer in Ohio that had a clean example I really wanted, my dream color, and16K miles all while in an immaculate condition... It was 20K more which I DID NOT want to pay but it felt right, so my GF and I flew out to OHIO and drove it back. $20K is A LOT to me as I don't make crazy money, but this was my dream and I had to feel like I did the right thing.
If it doesn't feel right, if it looks a little tired or feels slightly like an impulse buy, walk away. There is always another car, I promise.

All great advice and I would not over pay for this 997. That's why knowing what they have in it and knowing how much work it needs is important to me or being there in person. The dealership is one of those WOW LOOK AT US types which explains the stupid emblems.
