Smile 2011 Turbo S questions

Ive been looking to buy a turbo s for under 100k but Im confused at some of the advertising I see from the dealer sites.
Does the 2011 911 Turbo S have 500hp or 530hp?
Is it built as a 997.1 or a 997.2 platform?
Thanks for any clarification you can provide
Bill

2011 Turbo S is a second generation 997 (997.2) and it has 530HP. Porsche did not make a 997.1 Turbo S.

Get a 991 Turbo if you can. All 997.1,2 look the same. I own one and like it. Just my advise, it just so much more modern. If cash is the reason, then best bang for the buck would be an 07 or 08. The 09 is close to 997.2 prices I think and not worth it IMHO. Yes it has a better updated POS NAV unit that’s slightly more modern than previous POS NAV unit. But.....you can add a Denison digital unit and it becomes modern. Can’t do that with the 09 NAV unit.

The 11 TTS also has 516 ft. pounds of torque. IMO, it's a more traditional looking 911 than the 991. But that's JMHO.

OP,

I would go drive all three models. The 997.1, 997.2 and 991. Besides being the least expensive by $15K+ the 997.1 is widely available and lacks many of the current updates found in the new generation of 911’s. IE: DI motor, PDK transmission, ceramic brakes, center lock wheels, etc...

Although the 997.1 and 997.2 look more like one another. The 997.2 performs more like the 991. I have driven all three models and ended up purchasing the 997.2 TTS. The 991 is a bit bigger which provides a little more stability and comfort, but it also feels a little bigger and less nimble. I also prefer the looks of the 997 gt2rs over the 991 gt2rs. So the money I saved by purchasing the 997.2 (over the 991) has gone towards performance and aesthetic gt2rs mods. I have been very happy with my choice and would do it over again the same way...

I have owned a 2006 Carrera and now have a 2009 C2S cab so I have a little experience with the 997.1 and .2 but not in a turbo s variant. I have driven a 991 C2S.
From what I have read and experienced my current preference would be a 997.2 and yes $$ does figure into it for me.
I drove a 2012 turbo s a couple of weeks ago and it is very impressive and in this case affordable for me. I was getting confusing info from the dealer sites so thought I would ask the experts
Thanks for the help

Not quite.

Many of us prefer the Mezger engine in the .1 over the DFI unit, and there is an incredible aftermarket community to support it as it makes crazy power with stock internals.

Additionally, you can get PCCB's on a .1 (I have them), and GOOD 6 speed cars are not widely available and prices are on the rise.

If you want the newer radio and PDK, then the .2 is obviously a better choice. They too can be modded.

How foolish would I be to buy a 2011-2013 Turbo S that was not covered by a CPO agreement?
What are some common failure modes?

Not foolish at all. Mine has been solid so far with 40K miles on it. But I also have a warranty "just in case."

That is a beautiful car in your Avatar. I love a speed yellow 911.

I wouldn’t worry. I have 39K miles on my 2011TTS and I have spent zero dollars on repairs. I have done all the maintenance and replaced the tires a few times. It is still tight as a drum with no rattles. I bought the car new and I don’t have an extended warrantyand am not losing any sleep.

I hope you'll join our little TTS community soon. They are great cars!
Thank you for your compliment, it's 1 of 12 for 2011 and I do like it! Some posters pooh pooh yellow but it comes down to personal preference, taste and choice.
All of my repairs have been cosmetic and not drivetrain related. The TTS can be very reliable when it's maintained and driven properly.
I'd call Fidelity to discuss their warranty programs to determine what you need based upon future ownership and driving requirements. Ask for a quote and say thank you. Next, if I recall search the archives for an earlier thread (2-3 months ago?) that identified a reliable source who was selling Fidelity warranties at a reduced cost, I think they were in the $2.5-3K range which IMO is very reasonable should you ever need it.
Continue to post your questions, we enjoy helping new owners find the right car The 2011-2013 TT's and TTS's are keepers.
