2009 997.1 or 997.2
Is the 2009 a 997.2 and What engine repair would constitute having to remove the engine?
I am in the process of purchasing a 2009 Turbo 911 with 67000 miles on the clock and at about the 28000 mile mark the engine was repaired with the engine taken out to complete the repair.

2009 is the last year of the .1 Mezger engine. It could have been removed for a number of things, but the main two weaknesses of the .1 engine are coolant pipes coming off/leaking and the camshaft sleeve slipping, both of which usually involve an engine-out. I'd assume the car has paperwork to show exactly what happened?

Couldn't hurt to try. They should be fully transparent and tell you, IMO.

Thanks again
I am also trying to figure out why it has a tips and not a PDK transmission as everything I read "Wikipedia" that was the first year of PDK wonder if it was just on the shelf when going down the assembly line.

All 2009's except the turbos were 997.2's with optional PDK's. Porsche retained the Tiptronic transmission in the 2009 turbos. 2010 turbos (997.2) are equipped with the optional PDK transmission. There is nothing wrong with a TIP although it's not as refined as the PDK.

2009 can be a confusing year with Turbos, since they're sort of a 997.1½ model.
They are basically identical to the .1 07-08s mechanically, but with the .2 (2010-2013) interior. Turbos didn't get PDK until the 2010 model year.

A 2009 TT is a great car. Many people consider it the sweet spot of the 997 turbos. As mentioned above, it's a "tweener" year for the turbo, so it's part 997.1 and part 997.2.
For the most part, it's a 997.1. It has the 997.1 engine and transmission options. It does not have some of the features offered in the 997.2 turbo, like active engine mounts. The interior has been updated to the 997.2 version, which includes a few minor improvements. Most notably, the PCM unit is 3.0 as opposed to 2.1. Both are out of date at this point, but 3.0 offers more functionality than 2.1 and a cleaner interface. Aside from that, the center stack is black plastic instead of gray plastic. The 2009 cars offered the optional ventilated seats, like the .2 cars. On the outside, the 2009 offered optional center lock wheels.
