Default Installing a Tubi

Thanks to an Rennlister (Thanks 786 Wali) I have bought my self a Tubi hoping I can wake this beast up a little bit.

I have fitted plenty of exhausts in the past, but only on the aircooled cars.

Anything I need to be aware of before I start?

Is there anything else that is usually checked when the car is in bits for this?

                  Emphasis on "spray nuts and bolts around turbo." I did this about 24 hours pre install with PB blaster. Good luck!

                  A short 13m hand wratchet wrench is your friend. WD 40 the **** out of every nut and bolt. Can be done with bumper/IC in place, but more challenging.

                  while pbblaster or kroil and heat will work pretty well, id say there will be still a few studs that snap so be aware of that and buy at least 4 extra (them bitches are pricey).

                  Also you'll likely need new muffler straps, at least based on my car

                  other than that, straightforward.

                  Finding a muffler strap here will be a challenge. I am hoping these will come off OK, and go back on.

                  It actually looks OK under the car so it should be fine.

                  Looking forward to the extra sound.

                  Does anyone know what size the studs are? It's not listed on the parts diagram.
                  I have some old ones from my Turbo 3.6 and 993 TT but they are all old and probably had it anyway.

                  FYI: Tubi 1-piece. I installed in 2008/9?
                  I don’t recall the job being hard.

                  + The quality was excellent.
                  + Installation was easy- but my car was only 1-yr old at the time (nothing rusted)
                  - Exhaust sat too low and I could see the muffler from behind. I didn’t like that and that’s why the muffler has scratched.
                  - price was ridiculous. I paid $4,500 new (I think)
                  - Exhaust oound was improved some, for sure louder, Little drone.
                  - worth $4,500? Heck no.

                  I regret not paying someone to do this. Things in my mind rarely end up like I hoped they would. It's been a long time since I last did this, and when I did it was on my 993TT which was a lot more simple.

                  I have the Bypass pipes on so far and I called it a day. I reckon maybe 6 hours to get this far. I have been taking my time on purpose but it's still a crap job to do. This is for an experienced person IMO.
                  Too late now though.

                  Getting the copper gasket to line up on the turbo while hanging on to the pipes is a mission, and getting that little 8mm nut on the heat shield also took far to long.

                  The worse part though was feeding those 02 sensor cables through the pin size gap.

                  Should be finished tomorrow though all going well.

                  Never again!
