BMW M2 fun next/after 997 GT3..?

Had a M4 without comp package so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Very disappointing driving experience with a horrible exhaust note. Lag isn't an issue but like most turbo cars, power falls off noticably ~500 rpm before redline. Imo you want something that mimics a gt3. High redline, n/a, manual.

I Shaun's this weekend at thill and it was a BLAST. 4 corner StopTech Trophy, MCS, and aero. I think it has enough power to do stupid things, but not too much like the GT3. Even with the 888R, it was really neutral, predictable, and smooth. When it started to slide it was really progressive. Really like the wheelbase, front engine and RWD combo. It's not a GT3 replacement, but it's a great street car that can be a ton of fun on track.

better get a VW Golf R, is cheaper and runs much better than a M2. I did run my 2017 Golf R in PR Half Mile event and did 140.62 mph, and the M2 were around 136-137 mph and M3 at 138-140 mph

for that event my Golf R had CTS down pipe/intercooler, Miltek catback (actually CTS), GFB DV, stock air filter with K&N filter, UM ecu/DSG flash. STOCK engine/turbo & wheels.
the M2 on the photo had turbo upgrade, exhaust, ecu flash

I think a M car is a great compliment to our 997 GT3's as a Daily.. and or street car.. More refined and fast as ****. Yes, it doesn't sound great like the RS, but what does?!?! It's very Modern, Nibble, and I mentioned, FAST.
M2 is cool, too small for my needs; and IMO not as luxurious, as the 3. But I feel it'll check the box for you.

regardless, no offense to you but i would never pick a Golf over an M2. the dynamics are worlds apart. the Golf is essentially a warmed over hatchback with a FWD biased Haldex awd system. it's not a terrible car or anything but compared to an M2 it's not really in the same league in terms of dynamic ability. the M2 is a full-fat M car and has the handling to match. only the lack of fireworks from the motor lets the side down. you could never replicate the thrills it provides in a Golf though IMO.

Hit a road course and your golf R will be a speck in the rear view as it plows through each corner trying to keep up.

Own a GT3 and driven a modded M2 a lot. If you look at the M2 in its own league, a 50k car, it is amazing. Speed agility and M badge. But it is not even close to the GT3 thrills, as it is in the 100k range. M2's auto blip is so bad compared to the Porsche's auto blip function in the newer cars. Everything of the M2 is less precise than the GT3, like the shift, the throttle, agility etc. You feel disconnected even compared to the 1M.

If you want a $50k dollar car with a good engine buy a gt350. It's 200 pounds heavier than the m2 but makes up for it with brembo brakes and that sweet high revving engine. Design is always in each persons eye. Interior quality is a wash.
I like them both but the engine made the decision for me.

GT350 is not much quicker than a regular GT though, felt very similar when i drove them back to back. The chassis is obviously different but it didn't seem worth 3x the base car imo.
Also not sure about engines after hearing about them blowing up in the magazine shoots. Can't recall if it was Motor Trend or Road & Track.
