Depends on what they'll give you on a trade-in. If fair I'd say do it. Mainly because yours is not an RS and you'd be getting a much more modern car. With a warranty..

+1 clearly the dealer thinks they can make a profit with a MSRP sale + a trade-in and subsequent CPO resale ... (stating the obvious) getting the
agreed trade-in price is going to be key... and if traded in 'now' (vs when the
.2 is delivered) - I would want the deal "in writing" before handing over the
keys to the 7.2

The trade in is going to be the wholesale price.

If you still have a CPO on the car, i'd sell it PP. CPO transfers via pp sales, doesn't it?

Good points. I don't have the option of selling PP. The dealer wants it as part of the deal. It's still CPO for another 11 months though.

One of my biggest concerns is 5 years from now will the 991.2 GT3 be one of 10,000 and a dime a dozen as there will have been several newer, better GT3/RS models. I know my 997 Will always be special.

^That's true also. How about selling it and moving up to an RS. That's what I'd like to do.

I'd like to do that also, but at the price differential, I just can't justify it. Too many more important life things require my limited finances. Maybe one day.

I love the idea of the new 991.2 GT3 but I would absolutely have to drive it before making a decision to sell my 997 GT3.

If I had the funds it would be really really hard for me not to pick a 997.2 RS over the 991.2 GT3. The 997.2 RS will always have value versus the unknown of the 991.2 GT3.

Why settle for the new gt3? Sure it is faster than the 991.1 rs around the ring (by 12 sec or whatever) and the last rs was a car people lined up to pay a premium of 100k! What do you think the 991.2 rs will be like?

Each generation and iteration will be faster and better. At some point, for some, it becomes less about the latest and greatest.

Only you can answer.

I sold my .1 gt3 to a good chap on this board a few months back and stayed with my .2 rs and I still miss my gt3, but maybe I am just 997 crazy.

I would agree with the gentleman who stated the new car feels much bigger as well as heavier.Light and nimble is always my first choice.
The secret to happiness is appreciating what you have. And you have a beauty.
There will always be a newer model.

I appreciate all the responses guys. I think I am going to keep it after all. I spent a day last week split between driving it and just looking at it from every dimension and fell in love all over again. I realized, as was stated by another poster, I am 997 crazy. The trade in offer isn't where I wanted it to be so this is an easier decision than I was expecting.

glad you are keeping it - that was my vote.

The dealer selling it at MSRP is not doing you a favor.

sound decision, either way I dont think you can go wrong with any generation of GT3 or RS...

Good luck.
bin the Targa! - I might trade my '15 GTS Cabriolet in when the time comes vs the 7.2!

manual gearbox in a 991 is over rated.... It is a better car with PDK.

It is also a bigger car with RWS compared to the simple 997.

The size, sound and steering feel of a 997 is really something and why values are high.
