Default Center Lock Nut

OK, my question posed here is how to dissemble the center lock nut to check for proper lubrication. The usual diagram shows an exploded view but does not outline how to separate the cone to access the other parts. Does the grease just hold it all together or have I missed something?

Just knock it flat against a 'soft' surface like wood and it comes apart.

There is a wire ring that snaps into a groove that holds everything in place. Don't try to pull it apart. The grease will eventually push it apart, then deal with it. It's easy to take care of.
