My last car before the current 997.2 GT3 was a 996 Turbo X50. The Turbo had an ECU tune good for 1.1 bar of boost and an exhaust system with 100-cell cats. Its acceleration was significantly stronger than the GT3. It rode on Ohlins R&T coilovers and 245/315 rubber. I thought it was the **** in the corners. That was until I drove the GT3.

The GT3 feels so much sharper, especially in transitions. The driving experience is much more visceral from the sound of the motor to the weight of the steering and the feel of the shifting. The GT3 does sports car amazingly, while the Turbo is the consummate GT car.

The 996 had stock but very good suspension (it's better than a 996 GT3 with more adjustment from the factory) whereas the 997 has upgraded suspension. But stock engine.

The lap times, on same track rubber, are almost identical which is a tad bizarre. The speed traces are hugely different. The GT3 let's me adjust the throttle balance of the car in a materially more precise manner. And get harder on the throttle earlier. As such it carries more corner speed that the GT2 which then totally catches it back up as you pull gears down each straight section. The lap times I hold are class lap records so was pushing in each.

The turbo 4wd versions however didn't get close. Even with more HP than my GT2.

In terms of driver pleasure and fun. No comparison. GT3 all day long was more fun for me.
That's strange I am 2 secs faster on the same track in my 997GT2 (KWs) compared to the 997GT3RS.1 (öhlins) I had before. There is more to take out of the GT2 it was my 1st season last year.

You need to swap out all the rubber in the suspension and shed weight with the turbos to make them fun on track. More potential but more work and cost to get there.

At my local 3.5km track with 16 turns (roughly 2 min laps), I have never been slower than any 997.2 GT3 RS in my 997.2 Turbo S. All tires from both cars are Cup 2's. I do have the Wide Track package from TPC Racing and had good setup tips from them. The wide track kit is basically sway bars, LCA's, and spacers for the front. It allows me to get the 2.5 degrees of -camber in the front and -2 in the rear. I'm a good 2-3 seconds faster than any 997.2 GT3 RS that I've ran with.

I think it's the shifting. It's very hard to drive a stick fast at the track. The PDK is a huge advantage for 99% of drivers. If you lose .1 or .2 seconds at every turn (downshift) or every straight (upshift) on shifting it adds up over so many turns.

I'm not biased. I also had a 997.2 GT3 with clubsport package. It's a fantastic car. It's what everyone says about the car and you can read the thousands of opinions on it here on Rennlist. But it's all true. Visceral, great sound, etc etc. But I don't think it's faster than my 997.2 TS on track or on the street.

The 991 GT3 is about 2-3 seconds faster than my car on average. The 997.2 GT3 RS is about 2-3 second slower than me. All same tires, similar driver skill (intermediate/advanced). So the 991 GT3 is WAY WAY WAY faster than the 997.2 GT3 RS.

It's funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing about the automatic vs manual. I've only been on the track (at Gingerman) a couple times and always with a manual - A turbo as well. I thought it was very challenging to hit the correct gear at each corner and keep the revs where they needed to be to get into to boost as quick as possible. And to do it quickly. I can't say I was very good at it. I imagine for me at least an automatic /pdk.

Although I haven't had it near its limits yet, the more miles I put on the 997.1 GT3, the more I like it.

Without variety in my cars, it would be a chaos.

"Hmmm,What would i drive today (if two cars are thesame)?"

When i had a 997.1 TT and 997.2 TT at thesame time, i enjoyed it less.
