Awesome to see GT3 and RS owners still wanting to modify, play, and drive these cars as intended!

No one on Corvetteforum would be bragging about 450 rwhp The rest of the car sucks though.

This was on a short track. It heats up after a couple of laps when traffic clears.
Me in my 08 GT2 (just headers and racecats), a 991GT3RS and a 997GT3RS gen1 with 4,2 conversion.
As you can see the 4,2 conversion is fast ! Especially out of corners.
Don't pay attention to my squeaky KWs ;-) .
And the Cup2 is not a great tyre...

I have a 997.2gt3 and recently put a deposit for a 991.2gt3 (albeit quite late). I'm also wondering if the better move would be to build up my current engine instead, though I'm affraid it may become a money pit that never works. My heavily modded 993 was just that.

Did all of you that did these engine upgrades start with an RS platform? Logic tells me it makes more sense to mod a non-RS (to avoid paying the RS premium) but I fear I would always look at it and wish it was an rs...

Very much the same position for me as well. Spend all that money and end up with a car that is not as good as an overall package. I'm sure the engine will be amazing, but everyday usability, reliability, etc. I drive it regularly and in almost any weather.

Went through something like this with my 930. Went to 3.4L and it was great. Then went to 3.6L and it just wasn't the same. Great on the track, but on the street....

As long as it's done right reliability is not an issue. Ralph put 70k daily driven in all conditions miles on his 3.9 and it was still running strong before he took it back for more. Will the car have all the latest and greatest nannies like a 991 no, but most who would do this kind of modification aren't caring about buying a 991.

I have a 997.1 Manthey 3.9, and a 991 RS. If you line them up from a stop, it is the RS all day long. But, once rolling, past 80 MPH, they are equally fast. Eventually (most likely at 140+ MPH, and this is a guess), the 997 will start pulling away due to the down-force on the RS.

Did the motor get built in the US or did you ship it to the Germany?

If you don't mind, how much did it cost?

I shipped it to Germany. The build was done in 2010, and the total cost, including shipping, was around $31,000.

Thanks. I'm thinking of doing this after this summer.

For whatever reason I was expecting more than that. I hear Manthey and I assume big $.

How did they upgrade the software for the upgraded motor?

Any reliability issues? How is day-to-day driveability compared to stock?

I believe that in 2010, Manthey was the most expensive option. Seven years later, every company charges more money.

Here is the entire list: Manthey 3.9 engine, headers, 200 cell cats, second air intake for the driver's side of the airbox (cool feature since the fan is still intact), reprogrammed ECU (by Manthey), and special spark plugs.

It also included a single mass flywheel, but street driving suffered, and I went back to the stock dual mass flywheel. The car is perfectly fine in street driving, but the engine really shines under track driving conditions, especially on corner exit. I have had no issues with the engine.

Do you have a photo of the 2nd air filter modification?
