Default Proud first time Porsche owner: 997.2 GT3, Guards Red.

Hey Rennlist, proud first time Porsche owner here! I've been lurking on RL and elsewhere tracking the 997.2 GT3 market for about a year and finally pulled the trigger on one! I've been a Porsche fan my entire life but the stars just never quite aligned until now.

She's a 2010 911 GT3 in Guards Red with PCCB and 18,XXX miles. It has a Tubi three port exhaust that sounds fantastic and came with an extra set of wheels and tires (Champion Mototosport RG72) that I may try and sell. The plan is to daily drive the car, but we'll see how that works out over the long haul. Daily or not, I will definitely be putting some serious mileage on her.

The only thing I DON'T like about this particular car is that it has the "lightweight headlights" option. I would much rather have had Xenon lights; anyone know how hard it is to retrofit them? I also feel like the exhaust is mounted a little bit too low compared to other photos I've seen, so I'll have to get under it and see if it can be adjusted.

I have to give a big shout out to Long Island Sports Cars in Roslyn for a super painless transaction. I purchased the car sight unseen from Florida, and they got shipping completely setup for me, went through the hassle of shipping the factory exhaust and extra set of wheels and tires to me, and had a full 40,000 mile service done at the nearby Porsche dealer.

Looking forward to many years of enjoyment!

Congrats. And sweet Ferrari!

I daily drive mine. So far so good. But my commute is also about 12miles.

Huge congratulations to you! You're a brave man indeed for doing a sight-unseen transaction of this caliber, and I'm very happy it worked out. She will look right at home next to her Italian stablemate.

Fearless prediction is that your Ferrari will soon start complaining as you spend more time with your new German mistress!

Yeah, this is my first time ever buying sight unseen. It was definitely nerve racking, constantly wondering if I'm going to be scammed, or that the car isn't as described, or whatever else could go wrong. I got a thorough PPI done on the car from Porsche and put my trust in them. It's worked out so far!

Congrats, nice garage... like the understatement of an Acura poster over a Ferrari and a Porsche.

Now what's the Acura banner doing there in garage? I love your choice in colors for both of them : ). Mike

Congrats on the purchase! I also bought my GR .2 GT3 sight unseen a few years ago so I can relate. Enjoy in good health!

Hah, the Acura flag is from way back when we had a TSX. There is a Ferrari flag hanging as well you just can't see it from that angle. I need to replace the Acura one with a Porsche flag ASAP!

Congrads... Love GR, but I am bias. Your going to love the car. Great combo you got there. I forsee a RS in your future once you get a taste of the 911. That or an air cooled. Can never have too many.

In response to the LW headlight option, I have the same option on my GT3, and tried to retrofit the xenon housing to the car. I even had GMG do some ECU changes and the ECU still wouldn't detect the bulbs. Turns out the connector to the housing on a halogen car is a different DIN connector vs a xenon car. So that being said you have an option to do a xenon conversion on your halogen housings but that involves drilling a hole to run the ballast.

I personally opted to simply upgrade my halogen bulbs to the Phillips Extreme Vision 130+. Those gave me the closest to a xenon brightness without having to do much besides change the bulbs. I am happy with the results.

After much frustration I later understood why some of the GT3's were spec'd with the LW Headlights. Turns out that a color match option was not available for the headlight washers on the xenon cars at that time. They all came with chrome headlight washers, aka "chrome nipples". So discerning owners who got to spec their cars, ordered them with the LW headlight OPTION. Hope this helps!

LISC is a great dealer. Owned by Miller Motorcars - not sure why they don't capitalize on the brand equity of that name at all as they're beyond reproach. Also great choice in shipper with Plycar. I assume Porsche of Roslyn did the service? Another great dealer.
