suggestions for "scenic route" to Napa/French Laundry from San Francisco

I have a weekend trip coming up at Napa for dinner at the French Laundry, and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for good driving roads to get there from San Francisco...Was planning to just take the Jeep so we can bring our dog, but if it turns out there are some epic roads, then maybe the dog will stay with a friend and we'll take the GT3 instead
...Not really familiar with the Napa area, which is kind of embarrassing to admit since I have lived in the Bay Area all my life (my excuse being that the times I have gone there have been on chartered busses, so I was too busy getting drunk to pay attention to my surroundings). Anyway, any suggestions would be welcome, thanks!

thats a tough one, as you either take 101/37/121/12 or 80 & 12, unless you take the long way round and head up to Santa Rosa (101) and go south/east on 12.
None of those roads are suitable for GT3 "play" IMO.
I would certainly "cut over" from 12 onto the Silverado Trail once you are in the valley itself and take
that up to Yountville and cut back over again.
p.s
I dont think French Laundry is dog friendly...

checkout the deck at Mumm, they are DF also... and of course Fideaux in St Helena is an important doggy destination (as is the lounge at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch and outside Gott's in Napa)

Lmk how you like French Laundry because I can't remember. Got there way to early so ended up going a couple doors down to Bouchon Bistro and getting quite a few cocktails. Went back to French Laundry and table still not ready so had a few glasses of wine in their small bar. Once we got to table- don't remember what I ate. Mike

Yeah, Bouchon Bakery is really great. I would say there are better restaurants than the Laundry, but it's not going to let you down.
The whole route is pretty GT3 friendly, but some of the spots are ticket havens. Once you get up into Napa the roads are nice, and flow well, so leave the dog.
