got this error over the weekend 2x while running AC and car warm on grid. Wasn't too hot, about 90 out, car oil about 200 before run session.
Will pull codes when I get home
Assume either fan or fuse or temp sensors are off
I think durametric can run and test the fan
Any pointers to this one?
Pricing fans... Not expensive! Wow. $70 99762405601
I had the same error 2 + years ago. Inside the housing for the fan, i found tree leaves. I removed them and cleaned the hardness connector. 10k miles later no fault.

Car comes back from up north in a few days. There are also 2 relays under the rear deck. Pull the carpet (the one you cut when you put a bar in) and there is a cover by ecu and a power block there, there are 2 relays for the fan.
I think F1 might be onto something stuck in it, like a piece of track rubber or something... I'm pretty sure durametric can turn the fan on / off to test it.
Will sort it out, car ran fine/cool given the temps all weekend, oil max about 240 or so.
Car back home:
--let it idle to get warm, got error
-- hooked up durametric and ran activation to start engine blower, I can hear a relay click type sound from the rear carpet area where computer is, but no fan
--pulled fan, clean, no debris
--hooked fan to 12v source runs normally
--put voltmeter on fan plug and ran activation, no voltage change
So, it's a relay or a fuse.... or a wire issue, time to hunt more.
Is there a wiring schematic available for these cars? I'd like to be able to trace the plug wires back to the deck. Will need to pull a seat!
My next steps are pull the carpet and check the relay/fuses.
I did not check Amp draw on the fan however... understand that can be an issue too even if it seems to spin normally. Will do that too.
debug steps:
1. pulled fan, hooked to 12v verified function (you could also do an amp test here, fuse is a 10a on the rear deck) - fan tested OK
2. Checked fuse in kick panel. this is a 25a fuse, forget # but it's on the little paper on the cover. fuse good
3. hooked up durametric, went to DME section, started fan (ignition on), no fan, but I can hear relay clicking
4. unhook battery negative. removed rear deck carpet, pulled up right hand (drivers side in us) electrical panel (3 screws)
5. checked continuity on fuses, found 10a fuse to be blown
6. Replaced fuse, hooked up power, tried to run fan in durametric, fan does not run
7. verified relay #8 is clicking, it is, removed battery negative
8. Relay #8 and #7 are identical, so I swapped, replace battery negative
9. Turn on car, ran fan in durametric, fan RUNS, and fuse is ok
10. remove battery negative and swap relays again, replace battery negative
11. run again with durametric. and it runs.
So, as of now, fan is running, but relay seems to be flakey. The PET states #7 and #8 are both for the fan, but i only felt #8 clicking when i activated with the durametric.... so i'll replace both of them.
Looking at a regular carrera wiring diagram for 997, #7 is listed as "low speed" and #8 is listed as "high speed" so that would make sense as the durametric only seems to run it at high speed.

Excellent info for those that might run into the same issue.
