Do it! i got one and couldn't be happier. It's added a few years of my life expectancy. Worth every penny.

About a year ago I finally found a nice (green) .1 RS, and sold my .1 GT3. I have never had any regrets. I do not drive it much, but I love seeing it in the garage every day.

I would do it... Sold my .2RS in December and regretted it. Last month I bought another .2RS.

Question for members: Do the stories and experiences you had with a regular GT3 prevent you from upgrading to a RS?

Some of the best memories I've had was with my GT3 at DE's and meeting new friends. Everytime I sit in the car I think of past stories. All that would be gone with a new RS, but then again I've always wanted one. Would never own both. Would just add a 964 at that point....

Maybe I'm going through a sappy point. Just wondering if similar thoughts ever went through people's minds....

RS is like a boob job for your GT3. Same person just with some added fun.

Letting go of my GT3 was the hardest car decision I've had to make. I know, first world problems, we are all fortunate to have these opportunities. Anyway, I too had great memories with the car and loved it to death. But believe me, once I drove my (new to me) RS, I quickly forgot all about the GT3. The gearing and LWFW alone are a game changer. Everything else is just icing on the cake. And that is a long list!

When comparing the two you see all the special treatments the engineers left just for the 997-2 RS. In a way I feel it's unfair to the GT3. The differences between 997-1 cars are pretty small; chiefly, the RS being lighter. With the 997-2 generation Porsche made a big stride with both cars but saved some of the special parts for the RS only. And the 4.0 is even more advanced, but that's a whole different story...

Regarding the 964, it's become the most popular air-cooled car these days... I've been fortunate to own 3 of those over the years. Last year I picked one up and did a bunch of work to it, made it really special. And at the end I felt the 993 I already owned was a much better all around car. Everything about it was redesigned to have the classic air-cooled feel, just better. Engine, suspension, brakes, interior features, the list goes on. I'm not even talking about the exterior since that's very subjective.

In a way it reminds me of the question at hand here. Yes, the GT3 is a truly, truly, amazing machine. But the RS has this special sauce that you just can't get anywhere else. For me, I wanted the pinnacle and I'm thrilled I am able to experience it.

RS is not a value proposition.
ignore $, the RS is the RS. you can argue all day. but a GT3 is NOT an RS. for every gen of GT3, i have always owned by the GT3 and RS, RS is RS. GT3 is not RS.

there are a lot of difference in every gen, that's NOT disclosed on paper. take the car apart, which i did, many differences.

now looks is personal. some dont like the extroverted look of RS. so you have to decide for yourself.

I get where you are coming from. When I first had RS lust I knew that I could get one a lot sooner if I was willing to sell my 993 which I've owned since 2004. In the end I realized that I would regret selling it and even if I picked another one up it wouldn't be "my" car. There is something special about the "antiques" as Mooty, Ilko and Spyrex have all attested to- really happy to have both in the garage as they scratch different itches.

To the OP I say go for the RS if that is what you still want after owning a GT3. It was an easy decision for me as the difference at the time was only about $15k.

very well put.
One can always rationalize why GT3 and not RS, but if you want that last x%, there is only one answer that everyone will eventually get to. At that point, $ is irrelevant.

RS + Antiques FTW!

If you want to really appreciate a GT3 of ANY generation, drive a stock 3.2 G body around for a week then hop in the RS :-) HOLY CRAP IS THIS THING FAST AND PRECISE

What these guys say makes sense.

At this point though your only choice is to go .2 rs as Ilko points out. To pay 50k and have the same trans and engine I am not sure someone can justify.

Then you will be stuck because the nb gt3 will be easier to use more often, it's slinkier and less brash but still has panache. But your new rs will feel wonderful too. So you will have to keep both.

Ask me how I know.

I had a 997.2 GT3 and began to lust over the .2RS cars. I found my little unicorn with Mooty's help. The price delta was much lower back then but there is just something about an RS. That's why I paid over MSRP for my 991 RS after having had a 991 GT3. Every time I drive the .2RS I get goosebumps...the sound, the precision, the look, etc. I say go for it, over the intermediate term you won't lose a penny on the car.
