997.1 TT manual coupe vs 997.1 GT3 long term value? What would you do?
I have never owned a Porsche of any kind and have admired them from a distance. Currently my stable includes a Diablo 6.0 VT, LP640 Murci and Bentley GT. I really have decided that i want a 997.1 Porsche. I fully understand the difference between the two cars but same year, similar mileage the GT3 is bringing roughly $20k more compared to the Turbo coupe manual.
I have found a superb 2007 Turbo, coupe, manual, all the options including PCCM, IPE exhaust, 20k miles for $75k. I have also come across a 2007 GT3 white on black, with 14k miles, standard brakes, RS Clutch setup no over revs for $91k. So we are talking about a $16k difference not including tax.
So which would you pick? I dont sell my cars and this is something that I will keep at least 5-10 years. One part of me thinks GT3 will do better long term, but then I think of what the 993 Turbos have done and then I think save the $16k and get the car that maybe more enjoyable on the road with similar potential down the road I am not a Porsche expert, so I didnt know if the 997.1 GT3s have the same revered following as the later GT3s etc.
My first Porsche was a 2007 Turbo. Beautiful car and loved it until I discovered there wasn't a way to keep it from sounding like a vacuum cleaner. I spent a ton of money on trying to make it sound better including the BBI exhaust. Just couldn't get it to GT3 level. Turbo is also very heavy.
So I traded it in for a 07 GT3 and have never looked back. If you can afford the additional 25k, get the GT3. Even for a DD the GT3 is such a better experience.
I think the GT3 will treat you a little better financially since it is rarer but I would buy which ever car you enjoy more when you drive them. I don't think either is going to make a difference to your bottom line. Both are great cars.
My car was very very mundane until I did a tune and exhaust this past month
It has transformed the car into somewhat of a beast
Looks like the turbo you found has a system, just need that software now Also be advised the turbo suspension is the Achilles heal of the platform. Anticipate 3k to upgrade to some Bilstein Coilovers or ohlins road and track if you want to extract it's true potential
I think a GT3 will be better value, and also give you a bigger difference in driving experience compared to the other cars you already own. A GT3 will feel like a real racecar compared to the big, heavy italians you have there.
I may have the GT3 for you--2007, white, no wart, no accident history, no over-revs, paint is just about perfect with partial clear bra since new, meticulously maintained with ~19,8xx miles. I looked for this car for about 5 months before finding "the one." Presently it has near perfect Carrera GT seats $$$ and yellow Porsche seat belts (match the PCCBs). The original heated adaptive sport seats and factory belts are stored. Only changes from stock are lowered to euro height, factory wheels painted anthracite and full Cargraphic exhaust by prior owner. I have all documentation, window sticker, both keys, etc. Off top of my head, the car stickered quite high- also has bi-xenons, leather dash, color coded mats. Additionally I have brand new in box/never mounted satin black BBS monoblocks if interested.
Car is not listed for sale and I'm not 100% that I'm going to either. Only reason I'm considering selling is that I've put less than 700 miles on it in 1.5 years I've owned it, have new 3 week old son, moved to Amarillo TX and no track nor any places to really drive it--it's just sitting on a C-tek covered in my garage with only short jaunts to keep it exercised.
If you have any interest, PM me. It may take a day or 2 to get back to you because of our baby and schedule right now.
I went though the same situation just 8 months ago and ultimately chose the GT3. What attributes are you looking for in the car? Are you planning on any track use?
Driving the GT3 on the street, I don't think you quite get the full experience vs opening it up on a track.

People say that but I disagree. If you are an experienced driver (years of de and driven many different makes) you can appreciate all it does on the street without even pushing. Track is great but suspension is stiff, the street tires will give quickly, and then you better have safety gear...whole other enchilada
