I had the cam bolts cross drilled and wired for safety though.

Matt, with your busy schedule I didn't think this would be something you'd be interested in. But now I know better!
We started the day at PEC where I had signed up for the Mid vs Rear engine experience. My instructor was great, he also works with Chin and knows the GT cars well. Had a great time with him. PEC is a must visit place for any Porsche enthusiast. You can spend a whole day there testing the newest cars, having lunch, checking out the museum, or just hanging out. PCNA has made the whole building very accessible (once you have a pass to get in!) so that we, the owners, can fully enjoy our passion. I can't recommended the place enough!
Then we headed up for the Dragon... Some truly amazing roads up here, the Cherohala Skyway being my favorite. Did the Dragon at dusk, the road was absolutely EMPTY! Will do another run tomorrow at 7AM, then back at the hotel for breakfast.

Today was the last day in the twisties. We did a run of the Dragon at dusk last night, since it was deserted. This morning we woke up at Dawn and went straight to US 129 back and forth. The road was again pretty much deserted with no traffic. The Dragon in a 911 is really fun, but you really have to work to get the car rotated. Mid-engine guys have a much easier time!
After the dragon we visited the Fontana Dam, then went back to the hotel to check out and have breakfast. Do not order the Hillbilly Benedict!
And then we were off to the Smokies! Beautiful scenery, more amazing roads. And then we hit a town called Pigeon Forge, TN. Wow, who knew there was a mini Las Vegas in the middle of Tennessee!
That was followed by a grueling interstate drive to our destination for the evening - Roanoke.

Tomorrow we make the long trek back to New York. This has been an experience of a lifetime, what an awesome way to bond with a new car!

Thanks for posting this and the pictures. It brings back good memories of a similar tour I did several years ago with a group over four days but I was riding a BMW K1200S. That stretch of asphalt is one of the few in the States that reminds me of what we have all over here in central Europe. Kudos for going out of your way to find and drive them.

That's a personal decision. The 993 has been with me for some time now and I'm really attached to it. It's a very, very different car from a GT3. I would have a hard time letting it go. It's set up just right for my needs and will take a lot of money and effort to replicate it if I were to try again at some point in the future.
A couple of years ago I had just sold my 997 turbo and was in a position to pick up a 997-2 RS if I were to sell the 993 as well. I opted to buy a GT3 instead. In retrospect it was definitely the right decision. I got to experience the GT3 and really enjoy it without having to sacrifice the 993 for it. As I mentioned before, in my view the 997-2 RS is a car you work your way up to. I'm glad I took all the steps I did to get here.
