I think the sharkwerks 4.1 build is like 15k or something? And then for me on the 964 I would just build it out to 3.8L. No need for 4.0. Would be cheaper too. Then some suspension, wheels, brakes, interior bits, exhaust. Probably 25-30k for that build to do it right.
When I think about all this it's like 200k for the RS and another like 80k for the 964. Maybe i just stick with .1 or .2 GT3 and get roll bar and GMG/bbi exhaust and call it a day lol.

?? No Sir, 4.1 is around $60k and 3.9 is around $30k. My 7.1 GT3 is on the calendar

if 4.1 was 15K, i would have had alex built me 10 by now. he will foreever be busy building engines EXCLUSIVELY for me.
a 3.8L 964 done right with big intake, heads, exhaust blah blah is 50-60k
mid level MCS, JRZ, OHLIN are $5-6000 inc spring and various chassis pieces
when you get into real suspension, they are $15k and up to $50k+ JUST FOR THE SHOCKS.
BBS wheels are approx $5000 for 964
brembo brakes are $5k?
GT3 evo uprights $2500
a well done 964 is 150k with donar, now that's just a well done car not a top end car. at that point you are looking at $250. and if you want fancy stuff, you are looking at $500k+ singers.
i have shopped hard and looked everywhere. this is the ugly price.

this man knows his stuff
you and spyerx is killing my kids college fund.
i have thoguth about ebay off one of my kids.
hhaha, CJ's car would be close to 250 on a conservative basis.
spyerX would be 150 by phase 1, 200 by phase 2
whenever i think about modding my 964, i look at my 4.0 and tell myself, just buy antoerh 4.0 , it's cheaper.

Not sure I get that far in first phase, but you've seen my build list and know my OCD fixation on details and details are NOT CHEAP.
Thing is when you start Getting into this and pricing out all the effort and steps you now understand why a singer is that $$$.
Could buy another RS for me is one way to think about it, but I have one and this is a totally different thing and experience.
This is what I'm working on: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ld-thread.html
Here's a ballpark for well done:
Donor (always get a good one) 50
Engine 50-60
Trans 15
Suspension 15-20
Interior (and not a fancy singer one) 15 to sky's limit
Exterior 25+
Details 10+
And it keeps going. And going.

I was thinking ohlins, 3.8L, brembo brakes, haven't seen the GT3 evo uprights, probably BBS wheels or HRE, roll bar like the ones in the GT3. Not a full blown one. And then a few thousand in cosmetic interior and exterior goodies.

Price is on their website. Note it includes more than just the engine work. Alex is a great guy and you should talk to him for details.

But see what got me interested in this was when Larry from Ammo started chronicling his build. He has JRZ coil overs, brembo brakes and all that. He built the car up to 3.8L and he didn't spend like 60k on the build. I think he said he paid like 40-50k for the car itself?

start with a budget
add20% for contingency
then take above number and multiply it by 1.5, you be right in the ball park.
if you didn't hit that number, you are leaving things out or you failed simple arithmetic in school.
some ppl forget to add $ for deferred maintennace
others forget to charge labor if they did own work. labor rate in CA is $125/hour min. i dont know about you, but my hourly rate is really high and if i charged my self labor, a 964 simple build would be 2x singers' price.
so if you are truly honest and add up all the numbers, a simple build is 125k that's a rather simple build. no trick engine, no trick suspension, no bare metal dipped paint etc. remember donor in today's mkt is $40k min. that's a basically POS car. anytying decent and high miles are now asking 50+.
not trying to scare anyone, but the mkt changed.
if you can find a cmoplete car for 20k, even if it's beat the hell, lmk, i will buy everyone of them.
friend just bought one for 45k, i would'nt even touch it as a parts car! mkt is nuts. absolute nuts.

Full suspension with Evo uprights and all monoball, Ohlins TTX: 18k
BBS wheels w/tires: 7k
Roll bar, weld in rear: at least 3k, bolt in, 1.5k
3.8L build, basic: 25-30k, 50-70 for big power
Brembo brakes f/r + master cylinder + other tweaks: 9k
Interior strip, seats, carpets, dash parts, cool floor boards, harnesses, etc: 8-12k
If you want to build an air cooled car, and really build it, not just fk around, you will pay RS prices. There is no way around it. But the end result will be a light, fast, very visceral machine that may be more fun than that RS.

This is brilliant advice for home remodeling budgeting as well...well, that and accounting for the 10-12% the architect will add on top ;-)

A good set of air cooled heads (EXTREME) will run u 15-17k (ask me how I know), all singer cars have extreme heads, they get in the way of race car rebuilds
All in built engine on carbs is $50k...add for fuel injection....
Then again u depends how fast u spin it and how much power u want...we get 380 ish out of a 3.0 L without all the wild ti stuff

Looking forward to reading through your build thread Spyrex! The 964 platform is truly special. I moved to it from many longhood experiences and recognized 7 years ago that the 964 was the next big thing. This before Singer and before anyone cared about these air cooled beauties. I bought a white 91 C2 in New Mexico, bone stock, drove it home and started developing it. Def stage 1 stuff only. KW V3's, RS sways and DL's, MM's, RSA seats, Lt Wt flywheel and clutch kit, and a few other tasteful mods that transformed the car into an incredible machine. I loved it. I then found an white RSA that came with RSR suspension and set-up by Galen at Werks II in Burbank. That car totally blew me away. Best car I had ever driven, simple, pure, old school and altogether bitchen!
I then drove a set up 996-3. I was ruined. The GT3 just did it for me in almost every respect. I love driving and from behind the wheel, there is just nothing better. I sold all my other cars and now drive the 3 exclusively. I have been toying with the idea of going the 997 route but honestly wouldn't do it for anything less than an RS .1 or .2. This has occupied my thoughts now for a couple of months. Every time I climb into the 6-3 and take it for a proper drive, the thought of upgrading diminishes somewhat, but the thought always returns.

You guys crack me up.
Currently my car is stripped to frame. Going to strip and dip to metal, next step is to weld integrated roll cage to chassis and mate/ enable watercooler pumps and pipes.
Engine will be bbi built 4.0L 997GT3 engine. So far all goods and services have been rennlist sourced- got the car for 35k. Engine was 18k? Build will be a little more obviously. Going to have to beef up transmission, differentials (AWD) to handle 500hp.
My race team will be handling labor on most of the interior, fabricating the carbon fenders, roof, hood, floorboards, door cards etc. also will handle the repaint to sexy PTS color combo.
Bbi will do some of the lexan stuff like on zwarts turbo cup and help with the suspension parts sourcing.
Hope to get car finished late 2016. Not RWB or anything weird body wise- but just a super classy car that can outrun a 959.
