Default Is this a defecte valve?

I'm expecting this would be a new part (diaphragm/actuator part only?) and looks to be simple to replace?

Video: https://youtu.be/TwFfKVQxKAs

Also, the other side of the exhaust where the butterfly valve attaches, it is leaking and not set firmly in place. Would this set itself by replacing the actuator?

Thanks a bunch

I just replaced the vacuum actuators on my car. Took some pics and a little vid of the actuators actuatoring. The butterfly valves that are part of the exhaust system on either side of the center muffler pretty much just flop around when the vacuum actuators are un-hooked. Here's the link to my thread:

There are plenty of other threads that discuss this system as well.

EDIT: Re-watching your first video, I'd guess at least that actuator is shot. They are spring loaded to be in the extended position. It looks like yours will sit where ever you push it.

Good info, thanks

Just had my other side muffler off the other day, so I saw how the valve worked in that. What I don't remember seing is the spring. I'm guessing the spring is part of the actuator and not set in the exhaust side of the system?

And yes, it just flaps around and rattles a bit when the engine is running..

Sorry, yeah, the spring is part of the vacuum actuator unit.

Ok, ordered the part.
But just for the hell of it, I tested the actuator again manually.
Now it functions as it should?? The car has not been started, so how can this be in regards to vacuum and the way the actuator works?

It now wants to be extended? And springs back to the extended position when you pull it down towards the actuator body?

Exactly!

So weird. But thinking a little; when I tested and filmed it, it was on my lift, and the actuator in the left side was unplugged (but working with spring resistance). Then I mounted what I needed to, dropped the car started it an parked it.
So I'm guessing that the vacuum has something to do with this, but think it is strange that the spring was not functioning the other day but is now.

That is strange! When the actuator is unplugged (or plugged in, but no vacuum applied) it has a fairly heavy spring wanting to keep it extended. Its only when a vacuum is applied that the shaft / rod will be pulled into the body of the actuator. In that first video you posted a link to it appeared to be flopping in the breeze. I'm not sure how it would even get to where it would do that (vacuum or no vacuum).

Does it seem to be working normally in the car now? You should be able to see it move when the car is idling and you cycle the SPORT button. I'd check to see that both sides are functioning.

Yep, was really weird. Received a new one, that I might as well install, but I'll test the old one before replacing it, just to learn. Hopefully I'll get it on the lift in the weekend.
