The other "low" worldwide production models, similar to GT2/GT3 numbers, that jumped out of the data were:
1975-77 930 Turbo 3.0 2850
1993-94 964 Turbo 3.6 1437
1998 993 Turbo S 345
2004-05 996 Turbo S 1563
2011-13 997 Turbo S 2000
And we all know what prices have done for many of these models.

2009 GT2 is kind of a strange duck. PCM 3.0, 3.6l engine, and I think it still uses Bosch Motronic, 997.1 tail lights and other GT2 styling cues. Sort of a mashup of a 997.1 and 997.2. I thought the GT2 RS went to Siemens DME?
185 MY2008 GT2 units in the USA.
20 MY2009 GT2 units in the USA (many if not all are PTS).
Those numbers are the most prevalent seen publicly.

The GT2RS had the same Bosch DME as the regular GT2 in fact the only difference in the RS engine hardware was the intercoolers.
From a specification POV, the GT2 is a red headed stepchild. It is neither here nor there compared to the GT3/RS or Turbo/S. Kind of a parts bin exercise- turbo car with 3RS transmission but with taller gearing, etc. It seems like a few of the GT2 units are afterthoughts (ie. maybe a chassis here or there not in the system being used, so they make a few GT2 units out of them and charge a BIG price). Mine seems that way, with Clubsport chassis (CS roll cage points welded in, harness attachment points, etc) sold in the USA.

Thank you Greg for putting together these numbers.
I very much disagree about the 997 GT2 being a "parts bin exercise." The whole car is unique, but I think where it really shines is in the suspension set up. Much better than a 997-1 GT3/RS and more in line (and perhaps even better!) than the 997-2 GT3/RS.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean they are not like say a 993 Turbo garage queen. These cars are driven, and driven hard. Unfortunately bad things can happen at the track. I mean the track is fine, I raced SCCA for many years, but the track is the track. Much higher risk than sitting in the garage looking at you. But then again, there is always the crazed soccer mom out there, running late, in the minivan...

Why do you say this? I know they are great cars and fun to drive and they are not going to make anything like them again but do you see the market continuing to rise like it has been or like the 993tt's are appreciating?

Porsche made 3500 997.1 GT3 & GT3 RS (2006-07), and 4300 997.2 GT3 & GT3 RS (2009-12) --> 7800 total 997 GT3's -- about the same number of 993 TT's.
Based on that limited supply, I would expect them to appreciate.
And if the total 7.1+7.2 GT2's are 1261 cars (posted above), then that is similar order of magnitude to 993 Turbo S which is 345 cars, and untouchable to purchase...

In the UK there were 34 2008 GT2 and 28 of the 2009 PCM3, given this it seems unlikely that the US only had 20 of the '09 models. The GT2RS had the same Bosch DME as the regular GT2 in fact the only difference in the RS engine hardware was the intercoolers. This is just drivel, the 997 GT2 is on exact same ethos as 993 and 996 versions. There is no such thing as a "clubsport chassis" on a 7GT2, the "clubsport" items are just safety bolt ons which were a no cost option on Euro cars.

I watch the 09 GT2 market and I have read 23 of them in the US many times. Many are on rennlist and I know my VIN was one of the last 8 made. That said I have only read of one PTS which was orange, at least to date, so not sure why everyone thinks they are a majority PTS.

I think PCNAL derives it from US and Canadian sales data. I am not sure. I have seen them here over the years, I thought they were well accepted. I have written them to get an overview of their methodology. I will say, their numbers are "close" to many of the others posted here over the years. Loess has done some good work on the 991.1 GT3RS engine VIN numbers destined to US, and EDEZ some work on 997 cabs/coupes. I have tried to pull some numbers from Total 911 Magazine (although they seem sort of weak of late, and I have written them to ask some questions, but no response...). Anyway, all of these sources seem to coroborate one another, at least for North America. Worldwide is a mess. But it would be good to understand what PCNAL does, so hopefully they respond, and I will post it here.

So this is what PCNAL said when I asked for their data source. They seem very responsive. I like them.
PCNAL: "We pride ourselves on the quality of our data as it is essential to the PCNAL service soon to launch. As to collecting the data all I can really say is that we use data from multiple sources, some purchased some publicly available, and over the past year of development we have to amassed a comprehensive volume of production data for the models we support - we have 100% confidence that our data is accurate. "

Another really rare 997 is the 2009 Turbo. The gt2 and gt2 rs engine was based on the 997.1 turbo engine as far as I know. It is also a 997.1 but with come stuff from the 997.2 like the 09 gt2.
