Porsche 997.1 GT2 Outfitted with IPD, Cobb AP, & Injector Dynamics Upgrades at BBi Autosport

This clean Red Porsche 997.1 GT2 recently arrived at BBi Autosport for a few power upgrades. Other than having an Akrapovic exhaust, the car was stock and the owner wanted to make more power beyond the already impressive factory performance levels. To achieve this, we simply applied the simple formula of more air, more fuel, more power, and gave it the proven combination of upgradess from technical partners at IPD and Cobb Tuning.

Vehicle Specifications
  • Porsche 997.1 GT2

Engine Upgrades
  • IPD 997 GT2 Y-Pipe
  • IPD Thermal Header Blanket
  • Cobb Tuning Access Port
  • ID1000 Fuel Injectors

IPD Porsche 997 Turbo/GT2 Y-Pipe & AMS Alpha Performance Intercooler System

ID1000 Injectors

  • The first injector offered with full dynamic characterization providing tuners with the data they needed to do their job properly.
  • The first injector to be offered in dead time matched sets.
  • The first high impedance high flow injector available providing stock idle and drivability on engines as small as 325cc per cylinder.
  • The first injector offered with the now standard "Top Hat Adapter" making it plug and play in nearly any application.

IPD Porsche 997 Turbo/GT2 Y-Pipe

The revolutionary 997 Turbo IPD “Y” Pipe was built for the more demanding Turbo performance customer. This is not a cast reproduction of the factory Y pipe but a complete re-design from scratch, developed to deliver even greater air flow for both stock AND highly modified Turbos. The factory Y pipe becomes restrictive when adding substantial power gains. The IPD “Y” Pipe has larger inlets and an optimized diversion area allowing for even greater power gains. This superior and more efficient design flows 126 more cfm than the factory Y pipe delivering the additional power needed to raise the performance bar on any Turbo. Bigger isn’t always better, and the IPD “Y” Pipe is designed to deliver optimum flow without being too large causing a loss in boost response. These “Y” Pipes can also be special ordered in custom powder coated colors and ceramic coatings or polished to improve the aesthetic appeal of your Turbo engine. The IPD 997 Turbo Y Pipe is designed to be a direct replacement of the factory OEM Y Pipe. There are no modifications or fabrication required for installing the IPD Y Pipe. This is an easy and straight forward R & R (remove and reinstall) bolt on upgrade.

Cobb Tuning Porsche 997.1 Turbo/GT2 Accessport V3

No performance upgrade is complete without a tune to reliably extract as much power as possible while maintaining excellent driveability and consistent results. BBi Autosport is not only proud to be an Authorized Dealer and Certified Porsche ProTuner for COBB Tuning but also a dedicated technical partner. Striving to be at the forefront of Porsche ECU tuning technology,

BBi Autosport has been instrumental with helping Cobb Tuning's development for all applications since its first foray into the Porsche market in 2014. The Accessport V3 is the world's best selling, most flexible ECU upgrade solution. It provides Off-The-Shelf (OTS) maps for Porsches that are stock or has minor bolt-on upgrades. These OTS calibrations unlock power hidden within the vehicle by replacing conservative factory settings with more aggressive calibrations. For Porsche vehicles that are modified beyond the scope of the OTS maps, we offer individualized dyno and remote Pro Tuning service that are unique to each vehicle. Capable of handling well over 1300 WHP, Pro Tuning is necessary for clients that have extensively modified their vehicles with parts that are not supported by the OTS maps, such as upgraded turbochargers, fuel system, and engine internals.

Features:

• Simple plug and play Installation
• Intuitive on-screen instructions
• Ability to quickly store and change up to 100 maps
• Vehicle upgrade support to accommodate new modifications
• In car mount to allow performance data monitoring
• Data logging capabilities to evaluate engine performance
• Also functions as gauge to monitor boost or any other live information, directly from the ECU
• Troubleshoots and clears trouble codes
• Full uninstallation to completely and quickly remove programming from the car’s ECU

IPD Thermal Header Blanket Installed

The new IPD Thermal Performance Header Blankets are specifically designed to increase power and boost response by insulating and containing critical exhaust energy that expedites exhaust flow through turbos and headers. Thermal Header / Manifold blankets are designed to contain heat inside the exhaust system where it is most effective without exceeding critical EGT thresholds. Wrapping the primaries (headers) decreases convective heat transfer from underbody air. While this may seem counter intuitive from a durability standpoint it is crucial for performance.A side benefit is the reduction in engine bay temperatures, which helps preserve electronic and organic components further extending vehicle longevity and reliability. This is especially critical with highly modified cars that experience daily street driving

For long lasting performance, IPD recommends high quality 321 Stainless Steel headers or better. Low quality aftermarket headers of poor metallurgy and inferior build quality can be susceptible to cracking with the increased heat. Elaborate and expensive thermal containment systems have been extensively utilized and proven in virtually all top tier levels of motorsports with both forced induction and naturally aspirated applications for decades. All 997 RSR header manifolds come with a very similar heat containment wrap.

Each IPD Thermal Performance Blanket is manufactured to exacting specs to ensure a tailored fit for each specific header application. As with all IPD products, only the highest grade materials and quality craftsmanship are utilized in our manufacturing processes. Our proprietary multi layered construction combines inconel, ceramic and stainless steel. The internal layers are then wrapped in a carbon fiber style outer protective weave for added good looks and extended durability. All IPD Thermal Blankets are made in the USA and come with a full 1 year manufacturers warranty.

09redviper,

Thank you very much for the kind words. We actually swapped out a set of underperforming aftermarket headers for stock ones. So to answer your question, the wraps work very well.

I will work with Cobb Tuning and our in house tuner to get a dyno sheet and post it up shortly.
