I have two data points to share from folks that I have spoken with at the track.

One gent I know out of Canada has 144k KM on his 996 GT3 and the best guestimate is that car has seen 75% track time. Still has great compression and leakdown numbers and the motor has never been apart.

Another I know that had over 80k mostly track miles on his 996 GT3 tore the motor down as a preventative measure to rebuild it and stated that the heads were pretty darn worn out, but the rest of the motor looked fantastic.

Puts a good amount of confidence in my head about continuing to use mine in a spirited manor given I only have 34k miles on mine.

What do people suggest in the way of fluid changes for a car that sees 5 or 6 track days per year? My tech suggests engine oil at 3K miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I've done about 1800 miles of street driving and three track days so far this year and the engine oil still looks clean as a whistle.

The term "track day" could mean lots of things, in my case it usually means 30 mins to 1 hour of actual track time.

Necessity for gearbox oil changes on annual basis also?

I was told by my motorsport mechanic that a simple rule to follow is 1 track km is approx. equivalent to 5 street kms in terms of it's effects to oil... In my case track days are 350-500km per track day so I dump the oil every 2-3 track days... For yourself, as you seem to spend significantly less time running, maybe every 5-6 track days or yearly. Therefore every 5000km (or 1000-1500 track kms) I would change your oil...

Based on your level of track use Spiller, every second year for gearbox would be fine. I do it yearly and I've been told it's probably overkill for the kms covered... (typically 6000km, half plus track)

Every 5-6 track days which is about 600 miles both oil and transmission. Pay now or later.

engine oil every track event....the oil will tell you the health of your engine. Do not have a dealer do this unless they are trained in what to look for regarding a failing bearing ect....this is something a race shop should do

Trans every other if not every event

Oil is cheap...engines and transmissions are not

Current 3, at 35k miles. 0 issues.

EntityX has 5xk miles and 0 issues on his metzger.

IMO some of you guys over think things and are worry worms.
Wow Sonnen installed a non-OEM part (Guards diff)?

Oil (Motul 300v) after 2 weekends (4-6 individual track days).

Transmission fluid (Millers Nano) every 8-10 hours of track time

Nobody seems to agree on these intervals but this is where I feel the most comfortable.

Any examples of the dreaded scored cylinders with these engines, as seen with other models?

What entityx said.
That said, they have. Gary (SA) is legit & so is Danny (tech).
Best price's in bay area. When they did the GT2 clutch/flywheel on my turbo they warrantied the whole process and $ much less then others around sfba. Which saved me enough to purchase GT2RS inter-coolers from them at a better price then suncoast .

thanks guys, I need to start recording track miles in my phone as this sounds like the best way to keep track of servicing requirements. I have no aversion to gearbox oil changes annually and even wouldnt mind doing oil every 6 months if need be, I just hear lots that 12 months is adequate if not doing much mileage.
