Spare $60k: what would you buy as a fun car and possible investment?

If we are resorting to buying car as investment, IMO, you lads need better accountants.
Someone should also tell Mooty to stop driving his 4.0.
Entityx, should beat down that lady who DD's her Enzo as well.
Sorry i just hate these threads about car's as "investments". If you calculate ROI, very rarely do any of these turn into a profit margin. Unless you flip within days/weeks- if bought under priced. Or just at the perfect time before a bubble, and sell before a burst.
Unfortunately we are currently in the bubble phase.

If you want a fun car for $60K, buy a well-sorted narrow body 993. It provides the best air-cooled experience. You won't lose money if you ever you decide to part with it.

ship has sailed on the 996GT3, $70k is the bottom for a clean 40k-50k mileage one. 30k mile and under $80k and up. There are just not any for sale, roughly 1,000 units for the us market 2004-2005.
993 narrow body or 964 coupe 2 or 4.
aircooled porsches, GT2, GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo, CGT seem to be the hot ones. nice 996 are even climbing and they are the best value (non GT cars that is)

I was going to say the 996 GT3 too. I don't know if it will appreciate in value, within 5 years, but it's your best bet for the 996 model. And will more than likely become one of those ugly duckling cars that won't appreciate until there has been a mass market consensus to the fact - as in a lot of the older Ferrari Models(250's,275's and Quad Cam V12's).
I feel someday people will appreciate the 996 GT3 for what it is, the more or less most stripped down version of the GT3s lacking the driving nannies.
Besides, if you ever get the hankering you can do the Sharkwerks 3.9L modification on it. But since most examples have been driven a lot they might suggest a bottom end rebuild if needed.
Personally I have been looking at the V10 M5s with Manual transmission. And one thing is for certain... Mercedes, BMWs and Audi's don't hold their value like a Porsche does.

For an 997.1 Manual with low miles, under 20K to even around 5K (Sunday driver) you're looking at "AROUND"(!!!) anywhere from ~$75K to ~$90K+. That is depending on Mileage, already mentioned, and relovent Options.
But you can get lucky for $60K on an 997.1TT. Prepurchase inspection is a must and never use someone to inspect a car that a dealer or seller has suggested. The whole point is you are getting a completely independent inspection but everyone here probably knew that already.
