Default Porsche Cup Shift Cables

Hi guys,

Sorry for the "use search or lmgtfy" type of question, but I'd just like to double-check my search work. I read up mikymu's thread (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...o-the-fix.html) as well as Insomnic's thread (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...placement.html) and just wanted to make sure I had everything I needed parts-wise to get these cables installed on my 997.1 GT3? Let me know if I am missing anything such as bolts or clips or such, don't want my interior torn apart just to not have what I need. Thanks!

Cables - 996.424.040.75
Left side cable fastener – 996.424.145.9A
Right side cable fastener – 900.169.015.02
Shift Alignment Tool - P9619/1

Right side cable fastener – 900.169.015.02 you need 3 of these

you also need 3 of OEM-90016901602 to clip them in place

I bought 4 of each to have spares

Sorry but just double checking, you need three right side cable fasteners, not just one?

On my 996 GT3, I needed one at the shifter (right side), and two at the transmission (both ends).

This is shown in MIKYMU's thread where cup vs stock trans end are pictured.

Interesting, and I am seeing this on another thread's image as well? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7...b7c809bc_c.jpg Thanks for catching that! So 3 right side fasteners, 3 clips, then only 1 of everything else I listed sound about right?

You'll need some lubricant and some colorful words to get the old rubber plug out, and the new one in.

If someone wants to check over this updated list, I'd appreciate it. Eliminate anything I don't need add anything I do need, etc. Thankful for DER951's kind responses, just checking to see if there are any differences between 996 and 997.1, been reading up on some of 911SLOW's posts too.

Things I am a bit more sure about:
Cables (x1) - 996.424.040.75
Left side cable fastener (x1) – 996.424.145.9A
Right side cable fastener (x1) (or x3?)– 900.169.015.02
Shift Alignment Tool x1 - P9619/1
Clip (x1?) (or x3?) - 900.169.016.02
Oval Head Screw (x1) - 999.919.204.09

Threaded pin (x1) - 900.228.005.02
2 small M6 10mm thin nuts (not included in OEM)
^Two items above are included in 996.424.145.9A if I feel like buying a spare, I guess?

Stuff I am not sure about:
Cover plate? - 996.424.901.90
Oval head screw for cover plate? - 999.073.061.02

Oh, got this done ages ago, didn't realize anyone was interested, my mistake. Final list (for me anyways, but double check it against other forum threads if you want) looked like this:

Cables (x1) - 996.424.040.75
Left side cable fastener (x1 needed, x2 makes life easier) – 996.424.145.9A
Right side cable fastener (x1) – 900.169.015.02
Clip (x1) - 900.169.016.02
Oval Head Screw (x1) - 999.919.204.09
Cover plate (x1) - 996.424.901.90
Oval head screw for cover plate (x1) - 999.073.061.02
Threaded pin (x1) - 900.228.005.02
2 small M6 10mm thin nuts (not included in OEM, just ordered x2 left side cable fastener to make life easier)

Some clips were included and some fasteners too, so my x3?'s ended up just being x1's, and I just ended up having spares. Shift alignment tool was not needed since I was upgrading my 997.1 shifter with nylon bushings to the 997.2 shifter with the solid metal ones, and it came with a shift alignment tool. I imagine same case if you go 996 cup shifter.

Basically x1 of everything, and then go to Ace Hardware and get two M6 10mm nuts, or make life easy and get x2 of just the left side fastener which comes with the nuts.

If ordering from dealer, make sure they can get stuff from Motorsports catalogue. Some of those numbers are Motorsports numbers and won't work at a typical Porsche dealer.

You only need one(1) cover plate and one (1) oval head screw for cover plate

Since the thread is from back from 2015, as a modern-day 2019 update for anyone who still remains curious about doing this, almost all these items have been NLA'd by Porsche according to GMG, FVD, Carnewal, and a few other sources I've checked with for replacements lately.

I have an extra set of brand new Cup cables including all the extra end fitting parts for a simple install if anyone need a set. Cheers...

Strange, the Cup cables have always been available.

Interesting. I do recall you told me the shifter mechanism was NLA, I was told by other shops that a number of the smaller components were NLA in separated conversation regarding other items some time ago (although I never asked anyone about cables as I have a set installed and a spare set lying around). That's good news for other interested parties though, thanks for the clarification.
