Default Previous Owners - How Many Is Too Many?

I was down at the Porsche dealer this week and saw a really clean GT3. It's a 2010, but CarFax says there were 6 previous owners. My first thought is..what's wrong with this car? Of course, a single owner might be preferable, depending on how they drove the car. And let's face it, it might be better to have multiple owners who decided it was too much car, vs one owner who drove it like they stole it every day.

I requested a DME, so I'll see what that says, but overall, how many previous owners is too many on a car this old? And does it really matter?

Is it really 6? Seems like a lot. Wonder how accurate carfax is?

Looking through the CarFax report...

11/23/2009 - 1st owner (60 miles)
04/27/2010 - 2nd owner (4,784 miles)
04/04/2012 - 3rd owner (20,557 miles)
02/14/2013 - 4th owner (24,121 miles)
02/11/2014 - 5th owner (29,025 miles)

Looks like the next owner would be number 6, assuming I am reading carfax correctly.

The number of past owners matter very little on a car w. 30K miles. Get a thorough PPI, if it passes buy it. If the car doesn't come with service records do the 24K mile service - plugs, belt, filters, and be done with it. These GT3s are solid cars.

carfax is also bad about listing it as a new owner if the car gets registered in a different state. my car went from NJ to FL with same owner, but carfax lists it as a new owner.

Okay guys, thanks. I was thinking about eliminating this car from consideration, but the test drive, DME and PPI will be the final word on it.

Look at the duration too, sometimes dealers will be registered on the carfax for a few days or weeks. I wouldn't really consider that an "owner"

I went through the carfax and did that, and I believe there were 5 legit owners.

Car fax listed my previous car with 4 owners, in fact it has only two. The original lease it then buy it after lease end. Sold it to his friend who put his name and business name on the car, then withdrawn the business name to his name. Carfax also didn't catch my last E350 with front end repaint and one side panel was replace due to accident. I don't trust carfax that much.

I have a cayenne with 5 owners, my business leased it, then i bought it, then sold it to my brothers business, then he personally bought it and i just bought it back. the carfax looked like a medieval scroll but all in one family.....agree with above sentiments if its a clean well cared for example go for it.

Not a bad thing. I like to think that everytime a car changes hands it gets checked out, serviced, cleaned, etc....
