Default Oil Temperatures

On a roughly 71 degree F day I am seeing the oil temperature gauge on my 997.1 GT3 fluctuate from around 250 to just under 275, depending on how hard I'm driving. Even just idling in traffic, it's hovering around 260. Driven harder on the highway, I see just under 275.

Does this seem high to you? I did a search and it appears to be on the high side.

My coolant temperature stays dead centre at 12 oclock and never fluctuates once the car is warmed up.

If this is a problem, where do I start looking? Coolant flush?

Yes. They tend to stay 225-240 even in ca heat. Maybe the radiators are blocked or clogged? Any recent changes?

Not normal, but I'd start with using an OBDII scanner that can read the real water temps. The dash is a fake reading. The dash OIL is right on with my car. Any scanner that can get live data can do this.

There are a few things to check, make sure temp sensors are good, check oil cooler (its on back of engine behind intake (yes, it is impossible to get to), oil level OK?, make sure you don't have a pressure leak in the cooling system (radiator, hose, etc), ensure you have proper coolant in the car (distilled water/coolant only!), could be thermostat, agree with ChrisF to check any blockage on radiators too.

Was car coolant drained/refilled recently? Key here is to check real water temps first.

As an example, the below is from a track run this weekend, about 75 out, pink line is first lap, other lines are last couple laps. Top graph water temp, Lower graph oil temp. During track runs my water is around 190-195, oil rock solid around 220. On very hot days (over 100) I've seen oil up to 245. This is data logged by my AIM Solo DL off the CAN bus.

Ill chime in given I started a similar thread last week. First the dealer replaced an old coolant cap (based on what I have read this could cause coolant leakage/pressure issues). They also confirmed the radiators are clear.

Porsche has since advised the dealer to try: oil change, change spark plugs, or oil temp sensor. They are trying the latter today, hope to get my car back. Ill post once the issue is corrected.

That seems really hot. My car is around 200-220 in 60-90F temps. Even on track for 25 min sessions at COTA with 85F air temp the oil temp was only 235-240F max.
