I have a Vesuvio Metallic .2RS but you can call it violet or eggplant. I'm fairly sure that it's the only one of the 997 variants (.1 and .2 RS and non-RS cars).

All depends on how things play out with the 991 RS....

Default Drive them hard

Shay and I drove our 997.2 RS at COTA for 3 days a couple of weeks ago - we did about 30 sessions at 20 minutes each over the course of the 3 days. We went through one set of brake pads and 1-1/2 sets of tires.

Buffy now has 16K miles and he's been at s at the track at least 15 times / year since we bought it 2.5 years ago with 3k miles.

Our goal is to enjoy and drive the cars as they were meant to be driven. So far this year, the RS has been at Buttonwillow, Streets of Willows, Thermal, Chuckwalla, COTA, and the Ridge (twice).

Many more days coming this year, so we're doing our part to lower the average selling price by working the RS hard.

While I love to see a car appreciate in value, seeing all assets appreciate to these levels feels a lot like 2006/2007 before the big crash. Dumpy houses in Canada have bidding wars at $1 million plus, the stock market in China has every mother and father reloading finance.sina.cn every five seconds, and the art worlds seems to be unstoppable! Having said that, even if we crash, in the long run, the 997 GT3 is a keeper. I haven't driven mine in over a year but I relish the thought of my next chance!

Waiting for the late 2008 scenario to repeat..

Congrats on owning a unicorn. One of the original ideas with Rennsport was to have as little as possible inside the car. Not everyone will appricoate it now but when we get back to this thread in 20 years you'll be the winner. Less is more in RS world! I'm lucky to own your spec but a 4.0! And it's not going anywhere.
How's this zero option, none, nothing unicorn?
The whorehouse red seems much less bad now...

I'm not a fan of the red, but love the hole in the center console. Weather permitting I'll take mine for a spin tomorrow! Can't wait!

I have two other 'valuable cars', but if I could buy 5 more 3.8RS I would.

the 3.8RS is terrific and delivers exactly the right blend of magic and power. I recently turned a guy down by saying unless he was offering me over 200k I wouldn't even think about it. I'm only at 5700 miles now and don't really drive it more than a few times a month.

This is my 3rd gt3 or RS and is such a better car than the 997.1 version out of the box stock vs stock it's funny to see the 997.1 RS cars asking for 170-180k now- it has to be 30-40k above them in my opinion.

why? as a start it's got different gear ratios not just a different clutch disc this time

A bit of an academic response here, but 7.2 RS'es have been trading at GBP150+ for well over half a year now in the UK markets. Realized to buyers that's still a healthy USD200+.

I do honestly feel that 997s have gotten ahead of themselves when it comes to pricing. Porkers used to dip, steady, recover then appreciate. With the satanic central bankers of our past (half) decade, these cars have skipped straight to the last bit (not unlike many other asset categories) and that cannot be a normal outcome...

+1
My RS 3.8 was such a HUGE improvement over my 07 997.1 GT3
Much better suspension (PASM) = no rear bump steer, more stable at speed
And the R&P + LWFW makes all the difference in throttle response

Yep the value of the 997 is right in line with the stock market. The wealthy don't have anything better than stocks and Porsche's to invest in.

The 07/08 crisis was about the housing bubble the next one will be about the government debt bubble and it won't be pretty. With obama care now in place 50% of the population is in some way receiving gov pay.

US Debt has gone from 5t in 2007 to 18t today. President Obama has spent more money than all the other presidents combined LOL I seriously don't know how our gov is allowing this BS to happen but apparently it's not just the US it's a global debt bubble. Winter is coming

I don't disagree with you, but I think the people that are paying that kind of money for an RS are doing so mostly to add to their collection. It'll be more about how it looks and connects on an emotional level rather than how it drives (kinda sad actually). In that regard, I think the 997.1 green and orange RS look spectacular and are what I'd want sitting in my living room as motoring art.

All it takes is to take the 4.0 out for a quick drive. Priceless.
I spend most of my time in Florida but is lucky enough to own these two rare cars in Sweden. Haven't been back for 10 months and the weather was descent this weekend.
I drive my 6.3 track car in Florida and it is great fun. But all it takes is a short drive in the RS4.0 and you understand how special they are. Fire it up and you hear that LWF behind your back. The shifter is so tight and brilliant that you wonder if gear is actually engaged. The throttle response is insane. Don't forget the steering. So sharp and crisp, light and it communicates everything back to your hands.
Because I can't drive these cars every week it actually makes it more special. I really miss it but its like getting new cars every summer.

Did I say they are priceless!

Beautiful 4.0! I agree, I am only able to drive my 4.0 once every three months or so, but this makes these rare drives priceless, and allows for a true appreciation for how special the car is - after driving other cars, even other 997 GTs, you step into the 4.0, and the drive is just special.

You also have baller white wheels thanks for posting some pics.

This won't affect the value one bit because there will NEVER be enough 4.0's to satisfy every collector...

But IMHO the 4.0 represents the smallest driving upgrade between all GT3 iterations since 2004..

I could not tell that I was driving a 4.0 except for the smoother powerband 2 seconds a lap and seeing other GT3's not bring able to keep up out of corners..I got back into my old 3.8RS and it felt like I had a 300lb passenger in my 4.0 in a straight line but cornering and braking all the same.

Just knowing you have one that not many can get their hands on is cool, but for example the GT2 RS and 991RD are a much more different drive than a 4.0. Not to say i dont like a 4.0 redline and 6 speed better....

Quick Reply: is the 3.8RS going to hit $200k before the next economic crisis?
